Hi. I have been taking 800 mg. of Ibuprofen two to thrtee times a day for several years for chronic pain due to automobile injuries and now arthritis. I heard long term use can cause high blood pressure, heart problems, and possible stroke? Is this true?

The common painkiller ibuprofen may boost heart attack risk by blocking the lifesaving effects of aspirin, a controversial study shows.

The study found Ibuprofen is relatively safe except when given with aspirin to people at high risk of heart attack. Only when given with aspirin is an excess of heart attacks seen.

This is a controversial conclusion as the study was not designed to look at ibuprofen safety, and does not prove that ibuprofen is harmful to people at high risk of heart disease.

So, the jury is still out on this one.
