I was on effexor for 10 years before I tried weaning myself off.  The doctor told me to go from 150 to 75 mgs to start the weaning process.  It didn't take long to get into the panic attack, so I decided to wean myself.  After a year the electic shocks were still there.  I took the dosage down one little tiny piece at a time.  I did eventually concede to being placed back on with the doctor recomending staying on it for the rest of my life.  I am on 150 mg again.  The turn my life has taken has me without an income, denied by unemployment.  I am a speech pathologist.  It's a very long story, but I was online looking for a solution, since today is my second day without my effexor and I know what's coming.  Let me know if there's something I need to do.

Thankyou,

Barbara Quinlan

I was able to wean myself off taking out one bead at a time too. But I am also working with a naturopathic dr. who has given me natural things for anxiety and depression and St. John's Wort....with these things I have been able to be off effexor for 2 months. I was on it for 12 years...so there is hope. If you are interested in the class action suit, let me know. Michael Fearon is forming a class action suit and we will only have to pay a lawyer if he wins the case...so it is worth doing. Please email me,

Theresa

I have tried to taper off Effexor XR on several occasions.  At this point, I feel there is no way for this to be done without checking myself to an inpatient facility.  I have spoken to physicians and they always tell me that I need to "taper" off of Effexor XR.  I can tell you now for me, that is BS.  I have horrid dreams, crying spells, shakes, nausea, wanting to die, aggression, anger, etc.  The longest I could stop the pills was 4 days before I had to give in and take the pills to make these feelings go away.  I was put on these pills when I was nearly 20 years old for Panic Disorder.  When I had attempted to stop or taper off the medication I have had psych doctors say that I needed them because I had a "mental illness, I was defiant, or because I had severe depressive disorder.  I feel all of those were false diagnosis to keep me on the medication.  The only reason and I am 100% aware of the reason for being put on these pills is due to me being so young and begging for the panic attacks to "just go away."  I have been seeing a new Psych doctor for several years and was just happy that she has been nice to me and understanding.  Since I have been hearing all of the other health problems that are related to taking Effexor XR, and the fact that I would also like to have children in a couple of years, I want to discontinue this medication.  I have read so many horror stories, that it makes me sad and angry for the people that are suffering.  People put their trust in the hands of these MD's, DO's, Psych's and then this happens?  Really?  It's just too much for me to even fathom. I want my life back.. I am 30.5 years old.  I have been on this medication almost 11 years now, and it's enough!  It seems that everyone has tried to band-aid my problems for so long.  "If your medication is working for you, why do you want to stop now?" That is what I have heard over and over.  These meds may be working, but how can I even know if I need them at this time in my life?  A lot happens in nearly 11 years and I feel that I deserve the chance to move on and try psychotherapy.   How can I do this when I am addicted to something that was promised not addictive?  For all of those out there going through this horrible withdraw and suffering, I wish you the best of luck and many prayers.  Don't give up!! There has got to be a way that people can work together to prevent this from happening to others in the future.

Please tell me what state or province you live in if you'd like to join our class action law suit, to acquire compensation.

Our lawyer will be paid on a contingency basis, meaning, we are obliged to pay him only if he is successful with our law suit.

Moni,

I am so very sorry for all you are going through. I was on Ef. for 12 years and have gotten off of it by taking out 1 bead a day! I also have work with an alternative dr. who has given me natural things after weaning myself off and put me on a good vitamins program for the stress. There is a way to get off of this dangerous med. Please email me at _[removed]_

I can tell you more. Michael and I are getting names of people who want to sue this company. Please email me and we can discuss more.

Hi,

I am so sorry to hear about your experience. There is no other way to get off of it except to remove 1 bead a day. I was on it for 12 years and was able to do it that way. I was also getting help from an alternative dr who was giving me St. John's wort and other natural things for anxiety and depression. This has all worked. If you want to know more, just contact me. I am in contact with someone who is starting a class action suit...would you be interested? A lawyer will only charge us if he wins.

Hi Phyllis,

Michael is organizing a class action suit against Effexor. Let us know if you are interested. Also if you are interested in contacting the naturopathic dr. that I've gone to, she does phone consultations.

She has helped me as I weaned off of the Effexor by giving me "remedies" for anxiety and depression. They are reasonably priced and really helped me a lot. If you have any questions about this, I can tell you more
