I apreciate you contacting me  about having the same withdrawl symptoms. I thought I had an issue with my brain, like cancer or unknown.    Will I ever be able to stop taking this medicine and not have the withdrawl symptoms,     Has anybody had sucess?   I was taking the effexor er for anxiety problems,  I seemed like it made my anxiety worse. I find this worse than easing off  the codine prescriptions after surgury.   Keep in touch if you know about any law suites,   Mostly I would like to see this kind of phsyc medications taken off the market.  It looks like there are more then effexor er.

I am a 58 year old male who's had chronic back pain for about 30 years now..I began taking Effexor XR 150mg tablets 2X per day
for about 15 years now...a few times I ran out or had to cut back a pill per day and within about 2-3 days I began getting a high pitch
ringing in my ears, brain zaps, dizziness and overall anxiety...I want to get off this drug but I feel it's going to be a real problem..especially
from the posts I've read so far...should I just keep taking it for life??  I don't know what to do at this point..if I'd have known these
side effects, I would have never ever began this medication...I've taken dozens of medications for pain and depression over the past
30 years and fully understand prescription drug addiction..I've had problems with other prescriptions but none like this..any doctors out
there to suggest something for me?

I was prescribed Effexor xr about ten years ago. I realized after a couple of years that I was having troubles with impotence, concentration, dizziness and "shock" sounds which I found through sites like this were a result of this "antidepressant".
I tried to wean myself off by taking it only when the depression got bad. That did not work and I have lost several jobs in the process.
I have asked for guidance from Doctors for help.
So far I have reduced it from 300 mg. to 37.5 and even had the pharmacy divide that dose by half.
I am presently off it for 4 days now and have severe depression and the "shocks" are constant. I am experiencing dizziness and nausea.
I have been prescribed a replacement dose of Prozac which I will start today.
I hope this will rid me of this "curse"

Does anyone else have similar symptoms?

I can relate with all of you who are having withdrawals.  I have only been on effexor for about 3 to 4 months and the withdrawals are horrible.  The brain zaps make me nausous.  I am taking a medicine for the nausea which helps.  I went from 75mg every day to every other day to every 3rd day to cold turkey.  If there is a class action suit against this horrible drug then count me in.  Had I known getting off of it was going to be this bad I would have never taken it to begin with.  I am telling everyone that I can about this bad drug.

Hi,

I have been taking 150mg of Effexor for 16 years.  Have tried at least 3 times to get off of it. Impossible!  I don't care if you have a pschy. or not, and a medical Dr. has'nt got a clue what to do.

I guess I have to keep taking this awful drug until I die. I'm 58 yrs. old now. Sometimes my vision is blurred, which I have read is a side effect. I think

the Pharm.Co. should have a class action against them.

Hello,
I too have had the problems with Effexor withdraws. I also have problems with horrible acid reflux as well . The last time I was without the effexor it did feel exactly like you said.... "being shocked" I have been on it for 10 years soon to be 11. I think it has totally screwed up my stomach plus I cannot cope with not being on it also.

Hi there,  I have never had a depression problem.  I took it for years then decided I didnt need it anymore.  Went off.  Went thru sheer Hell.  Luckily I wasn't working at the time or I would have lost my job. Took forever to gradually lower my dose until I was totally done.  Cost me a fortune financially as well. I have had constant insomnia and anxiety ever since.  This poison needs to be off the market and I mean like YESTERDAY!!!!!!  I am mad as hell, and looking for a class action suit. Would really appreciate any information if you have any.  If I were you I would go to a naturopath, herbalist and try to straighten out your stomach problems and then have them help you stop this horrible drug.  Theres things you can take for the nausea and pain of withdrawls.  I think the most important thing is to be totally commited to stopping.  I think this drug is positively deadly.  Theres all kinds of information on the interenet about how to stop. Just NEVER do it cold turkey.  You must stay focused and gradulally, gradually lower your dose. And you'll need a very long time at home, not working. Hopefully you are not alone.  Stay focused.

**ok i have been doing some further research on Effexor and apparently it affects long term memory.  I have had severe issues with this and was wondering if anyone else has too.  I have been on Effexor for over 5 years now. I have gone thru the nightmare of trying to tapper off and have been unsuccessful. I hate being addicted/dependent on this medication.  I hate having to carry my meds on me at all times to avoid the withdrawal effects from not taking it on time!
Have there been any lawsuits against Effexor in the past?

I have been taking effexor for 12 years.  I have tried to stop it several times but always had to start back.  Six months ago, my psychiatrist told me it was toxic to me.  I wanted off.  I started taking Cymbalta and Abilify.  The Effexor side effects are still there.  I fall into depressions, have suicidal thoughts, joint pain, loss of appetite, tingling all over.  It's terrible.  Is there any help?  Is there any place to go for help?

I was on Effexor for about 3 years for depresion due to my situation and a death in the family.  After I tried to get off them when I knew I was doing ok with my depresion, I quickly realized how bad the withdrawls were and how hard it would be to get off them.  The most horrable effect was the shocking feeling in my head!  This would happen sometimes every min or so.  It took me 6 months to get off the Effexor.  A slow taper to the point of taking appart the capsile and pouring out half and putting it back together for my dose. This was around 2002.  The problem is that now any time I am on any kind of medication and miss a dose or try to get off it (currently Tramidal) I get the same electric shock sensations in my head and it is really bad!  Some how the Effexor permanatly dammaged my system and I feel I am forever broken because of this damn drug.  I have dealt with this on my own for years and today decided to google this topic.  I am 35 years old and have a new wife and a baby girl on the way.  I have a very normal life aside from this.  This problem even extends to waking up in the midle of the night and have a pulsing feeling in my head every 2 or 3 seconds.  It has really ruind something in my body and I really don't know what to do.  If anyone can
