Ever heard of Fibromyalgea? Me neither. Then after a series of tests and based on 10 prime symptoms, 9 of which have crept up on me over the last few months, I was told the good news. Good news? Well it beats not knowing what is wrong. Now at least I may get some help before I become totally crippled through the tissue breakdown that they have also found in all my connective tissues. It could be worse. I could have been a young athlete, or a professional sportsman, instead of a 61 year old semi retired business consultant. But where on earth does this 'syndrome' come from? How come they link it to ME? Why are 4 out of 5 who have this women? (So why me? I am in the 1 out of 5 category, honest)!
I keep active both physically and mentally through walking (painful) and working (great fun) and joining in as many activities as possible. I am a real thorn in the flesh of my local council as I chase them on a range of issues from planning to dubious decision making. My motto? Never give up. But are there folk out there who can answer the questions I posed?

Su-Phil; Having been diagnosed with FM more than 20 years ago, I have studied FM from within. I am the first person in the state of Ohio to have FM allowed as a Workers' Compensation claim. You have been active, very active. I would guess, at some point you had a short period of time when you were not, or could not excercise the way you were used to. A weightlifters body begins to break down after 12 days. The lactase in your muscles rushes out. The best thing to do is never overdo it but do not become sedate. Keep moving. Pace yourself. Use light weights. As an aside, while looking for answers I went to Cleveland Clinic. After many tests to outrule things like lupus and MS I was called by the doctor and asked to come in. There he said "some people want to be in pain and aren't, some people don't want to be in pain but are. You have the worst case of FM I have ever seen.... will you see our psychiatrist?" Yep, you got it, blame my mind, not my body. I had my sister with me, she said had she not been with me she would never have believed it. My best advice is TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR OWN BODY> good luck.
