I had the HOLEP procedure done at Methodist hosp. in Indianapolis about 10 months ago. Dr. Lingeman and his associates and staff were great. I had no pain other than minor discomfort of the urinary catheter which was pulled out about 16 hrs after surgery. I needed no pain medication. There was however pain there first few times I urinated which became progressively better over the next few days. I had a few drops of leakage for a day or two, but none afterwards. I can pee like a teen, but recently starting to pee takes a few seconds longer than a few months after the surgery. There is no ED. There is retrograde ejaculation and some associated transient burning sensation with ejaculation that is still present after 10 months that I hope will eventually go away. No regrets and would have this surgery first choice again. I was on meds for BPH for over 10 years that initially helped but became less effective with the years. I never obstructed before surgery, but felt I was getting close to that happening.

Thanks for checking in GUEST. The more positive reports, the better. I'm now 15 months and doing great.I haven't seen anyone on here lately that used Dr. Das here in Philly but I can ceratainly recommend him here on the East Coast.

I also had HoLep with Dr. Lingeman in Jan., 2013--over a year ago and am quite pleased overall with the results.I highly recommend him and the effort to arrange/travel/lodge was worth it-he is one of the best (and may very well be the best HoLep surgeon).
I always recommend him on this site and learned alot from this site and others--I did not and will not totally trust the local urologists--Dr. Lingeman is 'the man'.

Today is 4 months from my surgery. I am still using pads, but yes, only for small leaks. I can go with a single pad for whole day or more, but change them twice or three times a day. Got used to RE. Otherwise no complains.

my story is pretty much the same, except I had a surgery with Dr. Humphrey AZ 4 months ago. Still have minor IC but nothing unpleasant during sex, except RE of course (we all are stuck with that).

Hey sleeplesws. That's great news. Remember I had about 5 months before I had no leaks. You are getting there. It seems that most folks having the surgery and posting here used Dr. Lingeman. I think it's based on where you live. I was informed by Dr. Das (I have ti tell you he is really nice guy too - with great personality) that he taught the technique to Dr. Lingeman. In my case I didn't bat an eye when I knew I could have surgery within 20 blocks of my house! Zero Travel expense. (okat a short cab ride ). Keep hannging in there guys. A full nights sleep and no daily Flomax will be a joy. (Yesterday I learned my stagnent blood clot came back and I found that need to go on Wafarain for rest of life. So you win one and then...............)

Sorry to hear about your blood clot. I went on blood pressure meds recently. With age comes not wisdom only :-( Let's take it one at a time.

For the records, Dr. Lingeman learned the HoLep procedure from the doctors in New Zealand who invented the procedure. DR. Lingeman brought the procedure to the US and trained Dr. Humphreys at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. The actual history is easy to research on the web and that is what Dr. Lingeman told me directly.

Hi Guest. I'm not going to argue docors here ;-) But a Google Search will show that Dr. Das (who shows up in articles as Das, AK - his first mame is Akhil ) was writing articles on Holep in 2001. I found one with Lingeman from 2000). Dr. Das was in New Mexico before he came to teach at Jefferson in Philly. So, who taught who isn't the issue. I'm glad I had Dr. Das here in Philly - I'm sure I wouldn't have traveled for the operation. And he cerainly has the 13 years of experience. And keeping guys like us "going" (but not when we don't want to.

Well, it seems to me that you are arguing that very point. If you state that Dr. Das trained Dr. Lingeman, then it should be accurate (it is inaccurate).
I spoke with Dr. Lingeman and he told me that he brought the procedure to the US. I also confirmed it on my own.
However, I am glad that Dr. Das did a good job and wish you the best.

Hi guest. No arguments from me. The resukt is what is important and I was very pleased with the resukts of my operation. It all depends on the convenience and result of the operation. I probably would not have travelled and with the surgery here in Philly Medicare paid for it 100% (except, of course, a few months of "shields ). Steve

Hey Steve: No argument here as well.
It is just that I value this site and relied on it in making my decision to undergo HoLep with Dr. Lingeman. I would like to have accurate, truthful, and unbiased info on this site and that is my only objective.
I am glad Dr. Das did a good job.
I am a year and 2 months posy HoLep and just got back blood tests with a PSA of 1.7. I am grateful to Dr. Lingeman.
I am pleased with the result -- Bill
