Its mostly stress incontinence, when i sneeze or pass wind, or walk around for a long time. i don't leak at all just sitting down or lying down sleeping.
I also wonder if the uti's are due to wearing pads, and pooling of stagnant urine in the pad. I can't always change the pad immediately after it gets wet,

Hoping that over the next couple of months the incontinence resolves and I don' need pads any longer. I hear some people can take 6 months or longer to resolve their incontinence.

Thanks
Bruce

Thanks. Actually I am in Tampa and Dr Dora is doing the procedure. Guess I will go out and buy some depends. I used to buy it for my then elderly mother. I guess what comes around goes around Was 110 grams a MRI estimate?

The 110 gram was the number I was given by my urologist who did my biopsy. The nurse administered the injection to numb the site, and examined my prostate by ultrasound. She commented, You have a big prostate for yout age! The 92 grams reported was the actual weight removed. My PSA pre surgery was as high as 17 at one point. Post surgery it went down to .37 !
The Dr. Said my prostate was about the size of a baseball.
I never took any pain meds with the exception of the morphine administered to me on recovering for anesthesia.
I had to change pads every 2 hours for a period of a month and a half.
I still wear one and change it once a day due to minor dribbling . Some never had to wear a pad ever. Each guy is a little different. I have never regretted having the surgery.
Keep us posted.

Well I had my surgery done 3 days ago at the hospital that I work at as a physician and just found out today that my tissue from the HOLEP was discarded. Not happy.

I have had dysuria and hematuria since with bladder spasms and nocturia as well. Waiting for all these to ger better as Ii know they will.
At least my stream is strong even though it goes in multiple places currently. I also had a stricture that I did not know about that was dilated. Hope it does not come back. Have not needed any narcotics.

Hi Davisob,
Sorry to hear your tissue was discarded. That would be hard to explain to another Dr. I know from my experience , with all the test prior to surgery , I felt quite confident there was no cancer, but, the final report confirming no cancer was a very good news. I am truly sorry you will not have that same confirmation.
As a Dr. , you know quite well the healing process . I do know many of us had different healing experiences,
However ,all of us have expressed the positive aspects of this surgery.

Hi,
I am scheduled for Laser TURP in 2 weeks. Were you prescribed AVODART before the surgery?

I asked my urologist that and he said not to take that as shrinking the prostate might make it more difficult to remove it from the capsule of the prostate. Not a good idea.

I'm considering HoLEP surgery for my BPH. I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and I'm considering Dr. Amy Guise and Dr. Charles Kidd. Has anyone had any experience with them, or any other surgeons near Milwaukee for HoLEP?

Thank you!

I don't know anything about either of them, but allow me to give you some advice. Find out how much experience they have with Holep surgery. Not many are experienced because it is not an easily learned procedure. I would ask ,
1 Where they studied this procedure
2 How many have they performed.
3 Where is the surgery going to be done?

I was blessed to have a Urologist from my Church who knew me. He sent me to the most experienced Holep surgeon in North America , Dr Lingeman in Indianapolis.

There are a lot of good Drs. Out there, do your home work and make sure you get a good one . It's your body you have the final say.

I had Holep Surgery about 4 years ago. I don't regret it for a minute. You may find my earlier post helpful to give you an idea of what to expect . This forum was my recovery journal . It was my good fortune to have another Holep patient to correspond with. Feel free to read my earlier posts.

After 8 catheters over a nine week period, I got in contact with Dr. Linger and office in Indianapolis. Of course he was so busy tha t they said it would be at least a couple of months or so before they could get me in. They stated that they had a new Dr. Amy Krambeck that could do the same procedure. I was in touch with her and within in 3 weeks I was having the HoLEP procedure. My prostrate was 172 grams and now down to approximate 30 grams. I do not ever remembering peeing like this in my life. I went in on a Wednesday morning and was back home by 11 AM the next morning. It has been 3 weeks now and I have not one minute of problem. Blood in the urine stopped within 2-3 days after the surgery and never had to take that first pain medication. I could of not ask for any better care than I got a IU/Methodist all the way from entry to exit. All Doctors involved came and explained everything to me and my wife before and after the surgery. Of course this was my first time ever for any procedure in a hospital in 69 yrs. Been very lucky. Friends that I have talked to have stated that they wish they had opted to do the HoLEP instead of the procedures that they had, with more complications and longer down time. One friend had the same procedure (all great), we thought we might start a power washing business with all the pressure we have now.

It has now been 5 weeks. Peeing like my 12 yo son. No more hematuria. No side effects at all except still some dysuria and retrograde ejac of course. Since my prostate was discarded by the OR crew i repeated my PSA. It went from 5 down to .93 in these 5 weeks. My urologist is happy with that. Will follow my PSA's q 4-6 months to be safe. Very happy with my procedure.

Glad to hear it went so well. I waited 4 months to see Dr Lingeman, July to end of Oct. I experienced Acute Retention 70 times. Dr Amy Krambeck was trained by Dr Lingeman , she practiced at Mayo Clinic , for a while . You were cared for by one of the best.
I have retired lately ,but if you are looking for part time help in the power washing business, you can contact me ! 4 years ago Oct 22 and I still will take on ALL comers in a peeing contest!
Glad to hear yo are doing so well.
