So glad to hear it all went well and you have no significant pain. Good for you. I wasn't so lucky but the results are so good.

Had the Holep prodedure in March of 2015 at the Mayo Clinic (Dr. Amy Krambek). No pain, but the first week was stressful because I had trouble with urine control, but, after that, things settled into a pattern of increasing control until now (May, 2016) the situation is the following: total urine control, no night time trips to urinate, no leakage, complete normalcy in urination function and in bladder emptying and control. In short: a resounding success. Sexual function is exactly as it was before the procedure - no better, no worse. I will be glad to share further information if anyone is interested.

Update. It's been only one week since my HOLEP surgery with Dr. Das at Jefferson. I am amazed at the lack of follow up symptoms. I realize new things may turn up but right now the only negative I can come up with is a slight irritation in my Urethra in the middle of my penis that only bothers me when I have the strong urge to go and also when I do go. No real burning to speak up of. All of my urinations start out with a few very small drops of pink blood then the firehose starts. I get done peeing so quickly and forcefully that it also ends quickly. So quickly I might think I'm retaining. I have no incontinence what-so-ever. I do where a guard since some of that slight pink blood might be oozing out and stain my underwear. Lastly I slept from 10:30 PM until 6:30 AM before I woke to go last night. That hasn't happened in years. In any case I am in much better shape than before the procedure. My best to all of you and hope you are as lucky as I am. Bob from South Jersey.

I'd say you are very fortunate not to have any pain. Those weird sensations when you are getting ready to pee will go away. It took me 10 weeks for my pain to go away, but returning to normal otherwise took less time. So, look forward to a better and better result over the next few weeks. I'm 9 months out now, get up once during the night and can go about 5 hours during the day if I'm out doing stuff. On long driving trips, we stop for my wife before stopping for me. I use to stop every hour on a long trip and run to the bathroom. Life is good.

I had my pre-surgery visit with Dr. Lingeman this afternoon, and will have my HoLEP procedure in the morning.  I would like to thank all of you that have shared your experiences.  The insights you have provided have been very helpful in my decision process, and giving me a heads up on what to expect post surgery.  And frankly, I'm looking forward to life post HoLEP.

Thanks, Just Me. Believe it or not I've probably read all 4 yearss of your posts as well as Steve's from Philly. They were and still are very helpful. Your giving back is much appreciated. Hopefully I can do the same. And Best of luck to Fuel59. I can say from experience that it definitely pays to have the procedure done by experts like Dr. Das and Dr. Lingeman. One more thing to others who may undergo the procedure. Because of this site I did Kegel exercises for a month prior to my surgery. I don't know if it's the reason why, but I have no trace of incontinence. Bob from SJ.

Thanks for the prayers. Dr. Lingeman and the staff at IU Methodist are fantastic. The chart on my room wall says that today's plan is "Pain Control". However, aside from the expected discomfort from the 3-way catheter, I have had zero pain. 95g of my 120g prostate was removed. Drainage looks very good, they have reduced the flow rate. Next stop: removal of the catheter tomorrow at 4:00

Thank you Bob, I'm glad I could be helpful to any who needed to have this procedure done. Jonal was a big help to me as we went through this together. My wife was a great help to me as well. It is good to have someone in your corner. just me.

Glad to hear you are doing well. I was surprised by my lack of pain. The three way Cath didn't even bother me. I did however have a meaototomy. I think I did experience a little sting as a result of that. I never had to take any meds, for pain. My prostate was 110gm and 92 was removed. I was back to work in 2 weeks , and I worked a strenuous job. The people at IU are fantastic. just me

Hi All
I'm 70 yrs old and have had BPH for 15 yrs. I finally got to the point were I had retention and had to go to emergency room to get catheterized. I also have had multiple UTI the past year. I have a large median lobe of the prostate that acts as a valve obstructing the bladder.
I have an appt for Holep surgery with DR Lingeman June 1st. I'm really pretty anxious about going now.
My general health seems to have declined the past 6 weeks. Im feeling really fatiqued, tired and developed some cramping in my legs. My internist is doing some tests to see what may be causing the problem.
I don't want to cancel the surgery, but Im concerned about having the surgery if Im not feeling real great and my enrgy level is down. I imagine the surgery will take quite a bit out of me..
Id like to hear from some of you about the anesthesia and surgery as far as how hard it was to get back on your feet from an energy stand point.
If I cancel the surgery Stephanie told me I probably would have to wait at least 3 months before getting another appt.
Thanks
Bruce

I had my surgery at 61. I'm diabetic so my energy level does vary week to week. I recovered very quickly from the anesthesia. I was in the hospital about 24 hours and drove home (1.5 hours). Walking was a bit uncomfortable. Had to take it slow, but my energy was very good. Have you changed your diet in any way these past weeks? Low carb can cause leg cramping. I believe potassium is supposed to help that but I"m not sure of that, so check it out first. You will be so relieved after your surgery that it seems you should do whatever you can to not put it off. Good luck and let us all know how it's going.

Of course you will need to rely on the advise of your internist as to your fitness for surgery, but I was surprised at just how good I felt after the procedure. At 56 I have been forcing myself to hold back, and follow the post-surgery restrictions on strenuous activity and weight limits. Surgery was May 4th. Other than some slight discomfort related to the catheter, there was no pain, and the thrill of being able to empty my bladder in record time the morning after surgery was in some way energizing. Bottom line, follow the advise of your physicians, but don't let anxiety keep you from the relief and freedom this procedure offers.
