Yes I had surgery on my c4-5 & c6-7 on 7/16/2013. I have Horner sydrome in my left eye and I have been having a hard time catching my breath when I'm doing to much. I did not have any of these problems until after my surgery. He said it should heal in 6 months. I haven't felt like myself since the day of this surgery. I hate the way my eye looks. Where did u have surgery if u don't mind saying. Hope u feel better.fit

I had my surgery on 7-26-13 at C4-5 C5-6 at Aurora Hospital in Green Bay, WI...almost 9 weeks ago. Horners still here...possibly getting worse. Breathing problems still present as well as NO VOICE. Very frustrating...referred to 3 different specialists so far. It has been a long journey since this all started and I know im just beginning. I hope you are doing better and your post-surgery symptoms have decreased. If you are still troubled with anything, could you possibly share any information you have been given or treatments you are following. Thanks for sharing!

I have horners syndrome from having thyroid surgery, I had a large tumor removed and was told a nerve was stretched.  It's been 4 months with no improvement, I can't stand it.  At two months I saw a neuro-opthalmologist and asked him to prescribe me iopidine drops, they work very well and last several hours, less with contacts.  The only problem is that too much use causes them to wear off quicker, so I use them 1-2x week and wear glasses the rest of the time.  At 4 months I saw an occuloplastic for an eyelid lift consultation, was told my eyelid isn't going to improve.  Tempted to just do the surgery now but I'm planning to wait until 6 months just in case.  The neuro-opthalmologist told me it's probably permanent but the thyroid surgeon said wait 6 months, who knows.  At least I can look normal with the iopidine drop for now.

I have a question for all of those who are sharing ....were any of you alerted to the possibility of waking up from surgery with nerve damage possibly permanent and or 1 to 2 years recovery

I also had anterior cervical dissection and fusion and have a droopy eye. Also have a very raspy and horse and a dry hacking cough which I have had since surgery. have addressed the surgeon about the voice and was told have to wait till 3 months after surgery before I can see the ENT. They will put a scope in through the throat and look at vocal cord and may even give me an injection. When I first noticed the droopy eye was not too concerned, but it did not go away, so contacted the surgeon today and he me to see my regular eye dr. and he would determine if I need to see a different eye Dr. I realize now that it is probably related to the surgery. I actually had been thinking the horse and raspy voice was related to the dry hacking cough. I feel like something is hung up in my throat and I just need to get my throat cleared, but guess not Had this surgery last Nov.2018

I was told about the possibility of the raspy horse voice, but did not know about the droopy eye Was also told the risk was very minimal so really was not concerned. My surgery was last Nov.2018. still have raspy, horse voice along with dry hacking cough and droopy eye. Am seeing eye Dr. tomorrow and was told I had to wait 3 months from surgery to see ENT about the voice. They will go in with a scope and check out the vocal chords and maybe get in injection in the vocal chords. I just hope it can be fixed. It gets really frustrating at times. Very hard to communicate with people so do not go anywhere unless I just have to and that is mainly to the Dr. If I go grocery I go as soon as it opens so hopefully I don't have to talk to anyone. If you are on the computer close the droopy eye. Found out that helps some

Same thing here with surgery & Horner’s syndrome. It’s been several years now & the eye will never get better in fact it will droop more & eventually it will slam shut. The changes in the eyes are mainly because as I get older the skin sags that causes more drooping. It has gotten worse with age & now when I look down my eyelid flops shut & I’m stuck with one eye open & one shut. Looking at life with one eye is causing double vision.
I was told its not fixable. Now I look like a freak with the drooping eye & it’s getting worse because as I get older it droops more & more. I have used my eyebrow to pull my eye open, but now that causes headaches.
GET A LAWYER & get enough money that will pay for eye surgery later down the road so u can one day pay for a chance to be able to keep the eye lid open a little longer & to try & make your face look even you want cosmetic surgery to even out both sides as much as possible.
It’s not supposed to happen & it’s the doctors fault. My surgery was cut open in the wrong direction, it was supposed to be cut from right to left so when its pulled open it won’t pull on the nerve on the side of the neck.
My neck in front was cut top to bottom it was pulled open that stretches a nerve wrapped around the artery on side of neck & once its stretched it stays stretched. Ending with; we are stuck with it & the doctor screwed up.
Get the problems in writing & get a lawyer.

I had ACDF on 11-3-19 on c3,4,5&6. My eye was droopy and my eye won't dilate and waters horribly. It has been almost 2 years and it's worse.

Hello, I had cervical fusion surgery April 2023, started noticing a couple weeks ago that my eyelids started to droop. Please let me know what your outcome was. I have so many little health issues that I don’t want to add this to my list.
God Bless You
