Race size doesn't matter, the races have had as many as 5,000 and as few as 55. It seems in nearly every race that's had them, my AG has the most runners. Big or small race - that's a near-constant. Translation - I'll more likely not get a top three finish for my AG, but I won't come in last, either.

it really depends. i'm with coach, it's not really a big deal to me, but only if it's chiptimed. i had one race that was a zoo and it took around 3 minutes just to cross the start line and it wasn't chiptimed. that really blew. i had another race that was huge, but we were staggered by race pace and it was chiptimed. that was a really great experience.
small races are good....hardware! aka, the race i ran with shelf. they can also be bad because you can end up alone and you don't have that i've got to beat that person in front of me push during the race...and the adrenaline you get from a crowd.
i guess i like both. in either case, porta potties can make or break a race experience. no porta potties is  prerace, i need a porta pit in sight. :D
