I have to agree That chamomile tea has helped also linden. I stopped taking the pill 2 years and 5 months ago. Yes a long time of struggle. Little by little things get better you go back to enjoying things. What remains...Mood swings, mild anxiety at times and some mild depression at times. It usually correlates around ovulation and the week before period sometimes leading throughout the period but is not constant is more like moments where the feelings or sensations come and go. I think its pms that will never go away. Some women feel more symptoms than others depending on our sensitivity to the hormone fluctuations. We just have to remind ourselves that everything passes. Exercise is what I think helped me most and having people to talk to. I said no to anti depressants, I refused to put another pill in my body that could make the feelings Im trying to eliminate worse in the long run. Perhaps is also an age thing Im 36 and many women I talk to can relate to the monthly ups and downs. But truly, the worst is fully over.

Hi!
Yes, my doctor told me that I have many of the symptoms of PMDD now after coming off of the pill...which I never had before this. Before this, I never really felt my period coming mentally or emotionally. Now, the week before my period I get a lot more anxious, not so much depressed since starting the Zoloft but used to, irritable and moody, very sleepy (like can't get through the day without a nap), and some other things here and there. It has improved a ton since starting the Zoloft and Zoloft is actually used to treat PMDD in some cases so I believe it is working for me. How has the Zoloft been for you so far? I know you've only been on it a couple days but are you doing okay?

Wow thank you for sharing. 2 years and 5 months sounds like a very long time of struggling. I’ve had the anxiety, depression and mood swings and ROCD. I’m about a year and 5 months off and I can say that it has gotten significantly better and I’m so grateful for that but I do still notice some signs of ROCD and depression during the month. wishing you the best, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hey Anna,

I haven't seen a huge change yet. I know it takes a couple of weeks to build up in your system. Did it take you a couple of weeks to notice a difference?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if any of you are getting headaches? I’m getting terribly painful headaches, especially it seems like I’m the several days before or after my period and during ovulation. It’s mid afternoon here and I’m literally in my pajamas with the blinds closed and lights off because its that uncomfortable. It mainly stems from the bottom of my head/the back of my neck. I read that during ovulation your hormones change so maybe my body can’t handle any more fluctuations and it just hits me hard during those times. :( I’m almost a year off by the way. I’ve just been thinking how grateful I am to be getting this out of my system and I’m the process of recovering now, before I have kids.

Yes absolutely. Headaches/ migraines are very common right before during/ after period and ovulation. Pretty much everytime estrogen drops or is super high in the cycle sometimes what you eat can exacerbate them too. Try to eliminate cofee, chocolate, nuts, and cheese. Somethimes my migraines can last a whole day and accompanied by nausea and dizziness. Nothing about this is pretty.

Hi!
Yeah, you won't notice a big change probably for at least another week or so. I noticed a very small change within the first week... I had more energy and a little more positive mood but I was still very up and down with my mood and felt anxious A LOT and scared to go out and do stuff. It took me at least 2 weeks for that weird anxiety feeling to go away and for me to be able to start doing normal things again (going to the gym, going out with friends, going to the store without feeling scared, going on vacation, etc...) then at 3 or 4 weeks I felt almost back to normal, like there was nothing wrong. I still get moments of anxiety but it is normal anxiety and I'm not scared of it anymore.

i’ve been on here a couple times for a few months. anxiety, depressed feelings, depersonalization, and more. i’ve been so upset mostly with my feelings for my boyfriend. the ones where i felt like i didn’t even know him and i felt like it would never get better. well 4 months off and i’m feeling a lot better!! i’ve finally gotten that love feeling back for my boyfriend! i’m so sorry if you’re just going through this or are trying to convince yourself that itll never get better. i’ve been there. i do have my days where i feel off again but i have made progress. of course loving him makes my anxiety spike up because he’s so important to me. i get scared he’s going to die somehow and i’ll loose him and go insane. of course, that’s exactly what anxiety wants you to think. if anyone needs to talk, i can post my instagram and you can direct message me if you’d like?? i feel like thats a little better than posting my email or whatnot. hope you guys all feel better soon!!

Hello Anna,

My name is Molly by the way. I realized I never told you my name. My doctor told me to take 25mg of Zoloft for the first week (which would be half of the pill). I am now on my second and week and I am taking the full 50 mg of Zoloft. I hoping and praying that it helps. I am ready to get my life back.

Anyone get intrusive thoughts about death? Like suicidal but not actually.. Also, foggy brain? Never had depression in my life but now I do and I feel like it may never get better. I’m 6 months off but the past two days have been these thoughts. So scared.

Just got back from the doctors and she thinks that birth control could have never caused this and I had an underlying mood disorder or something all along. Now sitting at home crying as she referred me to a psychiatrist. 6 months of this, although it has gotten a bit better, it’s the bad days that are the worst. Makes it feel like they have never gone away.

i’ve had those symptoms and it was horrible. i now get them mostly around my period, and around 5 pm which is weird to me why i feel anxious at that time. i got to the point where i thought about suicide but like i was scared of it. i wasn’t suicidal i was just terrified of the thought. i do think about death too but it’s mostly that i’m scared of that as well.

i have GAD. generalized anxiety disorder. i thought birth control caused it to be so much worse than it was before!! so maybe you did have a mood disorder than wasn’t showing before this, and the way birth control got you. the anxiety and stress and all that just made it come out and you’ve never felt this before so you’re worried of course. i think that it’ll get better for you! i know it’s hard but when i started feeling like this, i thought i would never feel normal. recently i’ve been feeling a lot better though and more like myself!

Hey, I’m not going to tell you to not see who she recommended but I will say when I went to my doctors office when I was a week off and visibly distressed with heart palps, sickness, dizziness, weight loss, anxiety, depression etc. and I looked him in the eye and told him this literally happened when I came off of the generic pill and he immediately prescribed me Xanax. Well, I knew in my gut that something was off and I never took it. Almost a year later and I’m about 75% over my symptoms. Still get hit with PMS and ovulation hard because of the extra fluctuation in hormones but I’m okay otherwise and waiting it out. Like I said, not saying to not see a psychiatrist. If you want, look for another doctor or see both. Maybe someone to test your hormone levels. Did your doctor do that? If not then how do they know you don’t have a hormonal imbalance? I haven’t gotten mine tested because my insurance doesn’t cover it but when I can afford it soon, I still will go for it. Please don’t worry too much. My doctor ignored my symptoms and my moms doctor who she asked about me said this can defenitly be a reaction to getting off a hormonal bc pill. Doctors are people who have not known and or experienced everything so it may help to get a second opinion from someone who can test you and maybe has dealt with this before.

Hi Molly!
Yes, that is typically the protocol since 25mg is such a small dose most doctors will eventually bump you up to 50, 75, or 100, whatever dose you feel your best at. I was on 25mg for over a month and then my doctor started me on 50mg every other day and 25mg every other day and will eventually bump me up to 50mg every day, since I am so medicine sensitive and have health anxiety it has taken me longer to bump up the dose. I am really hoping that it helps you too! If I may ask, what symptoms are you currently experiencing?

Anna
