Has anyone ever had an eyebrow craniotomy? Are you awake or asleep? Is it done on an outpatient basis? what is recovery like and how long does it take?
Thank you for your help!

My wife had a full craniotomy in April, 2006, for an olfactory neuroblastoma, which is quite rare. She declined chemo due to studies indicating there was little to no difference in outcome using chemo for any sort of brain cancer. She had 33 IMRT radiation treatments, followed by 5 additional treatments with Trilogy radiation. It just came back and she is scheduled for an eyebrow craniotomy at UPMC this coming Monday. It is not outpatient. After prep, the surgery itself is scheduled to take 5 to 7 hours, and then probably stay in the Hospital for two or three days afterwards, depending upon healing speed. This tumor has only been diagnosed about 1,000 times worldwide since 1925 and UPMC has treated about 150 to 200 of them. The eyebrow crainotomy is rapidly becoming the better choice for removing frontal lobe tumors than the intranasal procedure previously in favor, with less possible side effects and swelling, along with better outcomes.
Hope that helps.
