I want to share my experience after my Hemorrhoidectomy, which was 11 days ago now.
Before the cirgury: dind't eat anything except water. Had to do two enemas, one at night and one the day after. The doctor will do anotherone anyways, just to keep it clean. If you are thinking on having this done, make sure you don't have anything in your stomach.
Day of cirgury: no big deal. After the anesthesia, I was not able to pee because the anesthesia can block the nerve and can trick your mind that everything is ok. They wouldn't release me until I peed. It was so difficult. Nausea was the worst. Tried to vomit but nothing on my belly until I went home, had something to eat and then I was able to vomit.
The day after: Taking maximum pain killer didn't helped me to sleep. I had to eat something with vicodin becaue it can cause irreversible damage if not taking it properly. So I had an oatmeal, apple or banana every 4 hours during my pill take. I stayed awake all night. They put a plug made of bandage in my ass to absorb the blood from the procedure. The plug was covering the wound, where all the nerves are so, every 30 minutes in average I had some kind of contractions where the pain was like if someone was putting an injection (needle plus the fluid) for about 2 seconds. I know it feels like that because 5 years back they did it to me when I had the same problem.
Second days and the following: Going to the restroom was the worst nightmare. Like having a kid without anesthesia only for a little plug piece of nothing. I didn't even developed any feeling towards the object. Taking out that plug out of my body was a relief because the injection feeling and the cramps went away.
That night I had another urge to go to the restroom. This time I did like 1/4 cup of blood clog. It was very soft but very very painful. Acute and burning like pain. Again, I was taking the maximum amount of pain medicine allowed. The only thing that helped was zits bath right after every BM. Every time I had to go to the restroom, I had so much pain but the relieve was to go to the tub in comfortably hot water. I did it at least 5 times a day. Sometimes without having to go to the restroom including sleepless nights.
I was able to sleep through the night one of those days. Don't remember when. Then, during the weekend I ran out of medicine. So I had to manage the pain without any help but it was better that the first 2 or 3 days. Sunday night I got my med refilled but there was no much need then as seems I am getting better day by day. The form of pain changes. First it was internal. Now is more external. Every time I go to the restroom is easier, but now, instead of having the feeling of having a baby, I feel like someone is burning my ass. After every evacuation, there is always some blood, except last night.
When I start to feel bad is when I have feces at the end of the rectum, ready to get out.
What I do is follow what the doctor told me: 8 glasses of water a day. 3 times a day Metamucil, Stool softener at night and healthy fiber food. Clean the area with and only with water (I get into the tub and wash the area while in a piggy bank position after every BM)
The moral of the story is that I do not wish this to happen not even to Bin Laden or my worst enemy. Lack of exercise, too much spicy food, no fiber or liquids and sitting for long periods of time seems to be the cause. So please, please please, do exercise!
At this point I regret agreeing to have this done, but at the end, I am sure my body will be grateful but I should treat him with more respect.
