Hi Yall, I'm have diabetes type 2 and every now and then I get hyperglycemia. Most of the time I have my diet under control. My question is how do I know if I am hyperglycemic? When I take my sugar levels and I find there somewhat high I try to see If I can tell the difference physically. So far, I not sensing anything different. Does anyone know what I should be sensing or see so I can know ahead of time that my sugar is higher than it should be? Since I have pretty much learned to manage my blood sugar levels I really haven't seen any symptoms that are generally associated with diabetes. Which I suppose is good. I guess what I'm looking for is the symptoms for a mild hyperglycemic event. Thanks

If you have very high blood sugar levels then the symptoms are clear enough. Your heart will begin racing, Your face might turn red and the palms of your hands will be sweaty. You may even experience tingling sensations and perhaps warm sensations. If you've had very high blood glucose levels then you have experienced these symptoms. It sounds like you have a very mild hyerglycemia. It wouldn't be surprising that you experienced no symptoms. They are there but really mild. So I can't tell you anymore than that. If this happens once in a while I don't see any harm in it but if it becomes chronic then your sugar levels will go high and you need to do something about that immediately.
I had mild hyperglycemia in the beginning when I was learning how to manage my diabetes. I had to learn that there were certain foods that triggered that response and it took me several months to figure that out. Mostly I found that if I mixed my food with protein and some good fats that slowed down the absorption of sugar in the gut and so then I didn't get a sugar spike. I also found that eating smaller amounts more often helped as well. Hope that was helpful.
