Hi. Thank god I found this post. I am 44 years old and 18 days post op. The first few days after the surgery I had little pain. After that the pain started coming and going. There has been pain mostly in one testicle up in my stomach and down one leg. I went to my doctor but he could not explain it. Did not comfort me at all. I have been very worried since I found other peoples horror stories. This post has given me some hope back. I will update on my recovery. Tommorrow I will start excercising again (gymnastics) but will take It easy.
Regards. John from Norway.

I'm recovering at one week now. After the surgery I was fine. Didn't really hurt. The first two days were alot of on and off with the ice pack. Thinking I'm doing good. I went back to boxer briefs and now I'm walking with a cane. Getting up and down sucks. Listen to your doctor. Ice on and off every 20 minutes. Tight underwear. Not only for compression but also so the boys don't bounce around while walking to the bathroom. The testicles don't actually hurt. When feeling around. I noticed that the duct was what hurt. It's not all easy. Just get through it the best you can.

I had my surgery on Friday at 11am. It is now Monday at 1030am. Procedure was okay I needed more anestesia. I got nausea during. It felt better once completed. The first day I was very uncomfortable. Saturday was much better virtually no pain and mild discomfort. Then Saturday night felt slight pain in right testicle. By Sunday night the pain was on the verge of extreme discomfort. No Monday morning I can't even get out of bed and in the most uncomfortable pain I have ever experienced. This is awful!!!!

How long did it take until you were pain free? I'm 5 weeks post op and still some constant discomfort. Just wondering if I've levelled off and this is my new norm.

Hi guys, this is about the most useful resource I've found, it'll obviously still be biased towards those without very easy recoveries, but good to hear lots of stories of more moderate recoveries. I had mine, scalpel free method in the UK 8 days ago with Marie Stopes who use specialists to undertake it.
My experience so far is that the op in reality is no where near as bad as the expectation. Embarrassment etc is down to the individual of course and understandable, but I was more concerned with the pain, in the event it was very short term and really not too bad.
Recovery so far - on the day, soreness at the entry point once anaesthetic wore off and a general feeling of being moderately kicked in the nads. Day 2 very similar, day 3 slightly better and day 4 I thought I was basically in the clear. I had little or no bruising, however that's just typical of me as I rarely if ever get bruises. Some minor swelling. Used ice once or twice on days 1/2, but not after that.
However, day 5 (perhaps I overdid it a bit on day 4, only walking etc....) I had some moderate aching on the right side, testicle and groin. Same persisted on day 6 and 7. This morning it seemed a little better (have never had pain at all when laying down overnight) it shows its little ugly head when I get up and gravity takes effect!
So today with work meetings etc I probably walked 2/3 miles, without the tighty's on, and this evening am feeling it. A general overall ball ache, better when sitting, bad when standing.
Phoned the nurse helpline earlier and was told that this was completely normal, to be expected and very early days.
I really think that the literature they hand out should explain the range of recovery period that is normal, rather than just saying 2-3 days.
Anyway, will post again to let you know how I'm going.
Will call myself 123 for tracking....
Cheers.

Hi again, 123 here,
Ok so I'm now 2 weeks and one day after the big S.
In a nutshell it has very gradually (not always perceptibly) improved over the last week. Not all smooth, some occasions ups and downs, but for the last two days I've had almost no pain if I leave well alone and just gently get on with life (desk job). Have also undertaken some modest activities like tidying garage up, mowing lawn etc, no problems.
If I go prodding around, it is a little sore here and there, small lump to rear of each testicle which I assume is either the sealed tube, or residual inflammation, or both.
So seems I'm nearly there. I'd say I'm about 95%, still get the occasional twinge or ache but doesn't seem to last long now.
Will post again in a week or so.
Cheers.

Hello, 123 again,
So I'm now 3 weeks and 2 days post snip.
The last week or so I've had a couple of days with some mild aching, which definitely gets worse when I start thinking about it!
But most of the time, and certainly the last couple of days pretty good.
If I sit the wrong way for a while and squash the lads they ache a little so I re-adjust.
Still a little tender to prod around but hard to actually work out from where. General moving them around ie showering etc is fine.
Sex also fine, no different, no issues.
Id say I'm 97%.
Hopefully this just continues now and in a week or two I'm done.
If I dont post again, then that is what happened.
By the way, for anyone looking for similar 'normal?' recovery stories, cycling forums seem to be a good source.
G'luck all.

We have had a horrible experience and would never recommend. There are more side affects for some, even with lots of rest. It has been heartbreaking. We are a few months in the process.

I had my procedure done Wednesday at the VA hospital (free). The doc had his own practice for 38 years and was up to date on all new procedures. I walked in the op room and they told me to take off my pants & cover with a towel. I didn't see any towel so I just walk across the room with my junk out. I said "everyone here has seen one and we're all about to stare at mine for the next few minutes". Once everything started I was chatting with the team making jokes between all of us.
I felt no pain during & walked out like nothing had happen. On the 30 min ride home I got some harsh abdominal cramp where I was moving around in the seat telling my wife to drive faster & avoid bumps.
Day 1 no pain after I hit the couch. No bruising or swelling.
Day 2 lots of abdominal cramping. Then my wife came home with the kids. My son 2 1/2 accidently gave me a nut shot dropping me to my knees. It was a pain I never knew could be reached. 5 mins later I crawled to the couch. I slept there that night.
Day 3 abdominal pain gone for the most part. Now the pain has dropped to the right testicle on the side closest to my leg. Feels like someone has a firm grip on it.
Day 4 pain has move to the back under side of my right testicle
In all I've used peas twice, Tylenol a hand full of times. Im wearing boxer brief one size to small. The pain level is generally a 4 but can spike to a 7.

I had my surgery on a wednesday, and it's now two weeks past.
After the surgery I "celebrated" at a nearby Brewdog pub with a cold IPA, and afterwards I took a cab home.
Stayed on the couch for the first couple of days, happily medicated with diclophenac/ipren + paracetamol, which kept me away from direct pain, and in a zone of mere discomfort.
Friday moved around a bit more. Saturday we visited some friends, and sunday a bit more as well. Monday back to work. And wednesday, a week after the surgery, I bought some jocks and actually went for a slow 4km run. No problems at all. "Support" is the keyword. I wish I had had jocks ready for the first 2-3 days.
Anyways - I'm now two weeks in, and I'm 100% back to normal. Can still feel discomfort in my lower abdominal and my boys are still a bit soar, but so far I've been out running 3 times followed by visits to the gym - and I had a 30 km ride on my 50 years old velo solex - so I guess everything considering I'm back on track.
Maybe I've been lucky. Don't know, but reading from these posts I guess the two main reasons for success are: complete rest for the first couple of days, and get some jocks for support; they really do help.

I had this procedure done on a Thursday afternoon. Its now Monday and this is the most uncomfortable day yet. There is a lot of busing and it feels like there is a weight hanging on my sack. Its not unbearable, but its pretty uncomfortable. I'm lucky I have an office job. The procedure was also uncomfortable. I almost passed out on the first side, but the second side was painless. I recommend staying off your feet as much as you can and just leave a freezer bag full of icy water on your boys. The icy water helps the bag surround your bag better than an ice pack can. Overall its not the worst thing ever, but anyone that says there is barely any pain is a liar.
