I have to admit that I was scared couple of years ago when bird flu was raging across the world. What is the situation like now? I know that the virus is still present in some regions but I guess it is not spreading from there for now. Can you tell me how many different streams of avian influenza are there?

The problem with influenza is that its molecular structure can change in time and thus creates a completely new form of threat. These days, or should I say years, the most active type is HPAI (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza) and this is the form that cause most of the problems. There are also H7 and H9 strains active in Europe. Let’s hope that there are no more active bird flu viruses.
