My question is this. For the last 4 days, I have had what can only be described as a rubber ball in my vagina. I feel that swollen. I have seen a nurse practitioner at my regular OB office and after trying to tell her excatly where I was feeling the "swelling" and she still didn't get it, she told me that swelling is normal, which I agree to, and that everything looked fine. She said that my cervix was closed and there wasn't anything wrong. I am still not convinced. I came home a squatted over a mirror and it looked like that "rubber ball" was about to fall out of me. I am concerned and no one seems to understand what I am talking about. Can you please help me? I would be greatly appreciative.

My mother had what it sounds like you have and in her case, it was a VAGINAL PROLAPSE. When she was lying down, her doc could detect nothing abnormal because everything slid back into it's place, but when she would stand, sit or squat part of the vaginal wall would shift out of place and feel exactly the way you described it. In her case, it was due to the hysterectomy she had had a few years prior, but it can happen after childbirth or when there has been significant trauma to the muscles "holding up" your vagina. Ask your doc or nurse to examine you when you are standing so that they can see it.
Hope this helps.
