I have had herpes simplex 1 virus for about 3 years now. Since Last may I went to do a pap smear and ever since then I noticed a swelling on one side of my vagina. At first it was just a swelling with no pain or irritation, then I got involved with a new boyfriend and after having sex with him one night using a lubricant it turned into an abscess. Every now and then I have to keep going to the doctor to have it looked at. The first time around the doctor said it was my bartholin glands, last time he said it wasn't it because that time it was in the wall of the vagina away from the gland area. Everytime this happens my clitoris also swells up. I take Valtrex and it doesn't seem to work, though the doctor said that's not the herpes that's doing that, because the herpes I have should only cause cold sores.
I tried two specialist and all they do is give me anti-biotics, nothing seems to work, because of that I have been avoiding sex because it's really frustrating. I would appreciate any advise I can get.

Do you have oral or genital herpes I? I was confused by that part of your post. If you have genital herpes I you can have all of the symptoms associated with GHSV-2 such as swelling bumps rashes etc. with flu like symptoms they are just usually less so. If you are taking Valtrex and it isn't doing much, pretty sure its not herpes, but you can try another antiviral and see if that is working better for you. If your doctor thinks that you can only have HSV-1 in the oral region, he is horribly wrong.
