I didn't bother making an appointment to see the doctor to get my next 3 months of contraceptive pill... so i missed it for like a month- maybe more. Eventually i got my prescription, i couldn't remember my days so I took the first pill on on the first day of my next period... but now i'm discharging all the time when i shouldn't be, my period was over ages ago and im still on the first months pack... i broke up with my boyfriend so im not sexually active atm and thats why i was in no rush to get my next prescription- I know i should have just went and got it... now im a little confused and don't know why im still bleeding... this sounds disgusting but its just brown. Can someone help and tell me why this is happening?

When you are on the birth control pill, the hormones from the pill stop your ovulation and change the tissue of your uterus - the same tissue that during regular periods breaks apart and bleeds. So, hormones from the pill basically disrupt your menstrual cycle and the bleeding that you experience while you are on the pill is in fact so-called withdrawal bleeding - your body's reaction to the smaller dose of hormones. Since you stopped and started the pill, your hormonal balance is a bit off - I think that the bleeding you are experiencing now, because it's brown (which means that it's old blood) is still just a residue from your last period and from the changes your uterus is going through again.
