When there is a cut on the gums, pressure should be applied to the area by clean finger to stop the bleeding. You may rinse the cut with an antiseptic oral rinse. Minor cuts in gums usually heal on their own and there is no need for stitches. However, large cuts may need stitches.
If you went outside and played until dark I suppose there was no further bleeding or any discomfort. If the bleeding persists or suddenly starts or if you develop any other problems, you should see a doctor to check for infections and see if there’s need for stitches.
Some of the signs that indicate a necessity for the doctor’s visit are large cuts and openings, dirt in and around the wound, persistent bleeding, problems with moving the jaw, etc
