I've been so frustrated with all the comments online about laptops NOT causing physical pain other than possible topical burns.  I've been joking about "frying my eggs" since I was having such horrible pains in my lower abdomen.  I finally was able to link the pain to my using the laptop on my lap.  Sometimes I forget and put the computer on my lap to send a quick e-mail, but the pain always comes back.  Before it would take about a 1/2 hour before the pain would set in, and now the pain sets in within a few minutes of using the laptop on my lap.  After I move the laptop, the pain sticks around, sometimes even for a few hours.  Before I realized that it was the laptop causing the pain, the pain would last several hours.  Even if I put a blanket or pillow or layers of clothes in between the laptop and my body, I still get pain in my lower abdomen.  Even if my lap doesn't feel warm--even at all--my ovaries feel like they are frying!!!  Not really a funny joke any more as I'm not sure what damage the laptop has truly done to my body.       :(

I'm a 14 year old girl girl, and this morning I woke up with two quite large and painful burns on my body, one on my leg and my stomach. I had accidentally fallen asleep with my laptop on my lap. Before this I had noticed that I got red marks on my legs too. And now I have painful blisters :/

I've been getting similar symptoms with using my laptop.  For the past several months the burning/tingling sensation in my crotch has been getting worse.  I have a refurbed Gateway NV53.  I would like to know if anyone else has similar problems with this Gateway model.

I just found this site.  I have been using my Macbook a lot on my lap, sitting on a couch, or in the bed.  I was on the computer watching a streaming movie through my wifi (1.5 hrs) last night and woke up with this painful, tingly, achy sensation in my thighs.  I was wondering if I was coming down with the flu, but it didn't make since.   I felt it throughout the day at work.  I got home and watched the rest of the movie (1.5 hrs) with my laptop on my lap.   My legs got much worse tonight and it clicked that the computer was causing the pain.  I immediately googled it and found that I am not alone.

Someone needs to study this!  And give us some answers.  No more computer in bed, or on the couch, I guess. :(
Hope this unpleasant sensation goes away soon!

It's nerve pain.  You are creating nerve damage by the excessive heat that the laptop is putting off.  Use a table/pillow/blanket.

I have owned my MAcbook pro for 2 1/2 weeks, Never having testicular pain ever in my life. I work out doors in the heat every day and my my does great, 5 mins with my "Laptop" on my lap i get a numbing pain in one nut only and at first it would go away. Now the Pain comes if i have my mac near my waist and it last for a half hour or so.

I love the MAc book sooooo much and it is my only computer but i am starting to get a little worried about what this is doing to my otherwise healthy 26 year old body.....

It is not a heat issue. I have worked in very warm summers all of my life. No pin ever.

Hi All,

This is kind of crazy that i found this thread, i will give you a bit of background info.

Age 15 i found what i now know to be epididymal cyst on both testicles, at the time i assumed the worst but never got medical advice. For the best part of 9 years i was feeling run down, occasional panic attacks, i lost weight which didn't help my way of thinking. All the time in the back of my mind i was asking myself "when will the symptoms show". I turned to weed at the age of 16 i found this helped my pain physically and mentally.

Here is the bit you have all been waiting for, using the laptop on my lap made the pain in my testicles intensify. At first i thought it was a coincidence but after several nights i came to the conclusion that it must be related. To this day i have never used a laptop since

I'm so relieved to find this site.  I purchased a new 13 inch MacBook Pro in June--the kind with the metal casing.  I had a white MacBook before.  I mainly use it on my lap.  I have a computer pad under it to protect my legs from the heat.  However, shortly after purchase, I began to have pain in my left lower abdomen, just under and below the bottom of my rib cage.  I did not equate it with the laptop use, went to my dr., who ordered an ultrasound, which came back normal.  I'm worried that this use might cause some permanent damage.  Does anyone have any info as to the cause?
I never had this problem with my MacBook, so think it must have something to do with the face that the MacBook Pro is metal, not plastic.  Any help would be appreciated.  I'm reluctant to bring it up to my doctor, because she would probably want to refer me to a shrink.

I've experienced the same thing--after the abdominal pain starts, even after I shut my laptop and go somewhere else, the pain can last for hours. Don't know what to do

My left thigh is numb to the touch. My laptops gets super hot in the same area that is in contact with my left leg. I do a ton of research in bed after hours with the laptop directly on my leg. For over a year i have used a latop this way. I think i have cause nerve or tissue damage to my upper thigh. The good news is my nuts feel fine. The bad news is that i may have caused permanent damage to my skin as i cannot feel most of the top layer of skin on my left thigh.

I have been experiencing the same sort of thing for about 4 years now.  Increasing, dull pain in my testicles with use of my laptop.  It is not a heat pain, and I do not actually have the laptop IN my lap.  It is always on a desktop or arm of my couch, about a foot from my groin.  The pain used to come and go as I used the computer, but now it has progressed to where it is constant for many hours (sometimes days) after using the computer.  It will fade if I go away for the weekend and not use the computer, but Monday morning it always comes back when i sit down to work.

I know the current medical thinking is that there is no actual pathology occurring, since I am a general family practice physician!  I have had all the necessary tests done and they are all negative, and yet I know my subjective experience.  This is a very real symptom for me.  As another commenter posted, I have taken to sitting cross-legged and putting a pillow between my legs when I sleep to apply pressure to the area, since that seems to help slightly.

I have yet to investigate this further, but I do suspect that this is something looking into.  I have great concerns for my health, particularly my reproductive health.  I do not have children yet (am early-mid 30s), but would like to and am worried this may affect that process in some way.

We'll see where this all goes.

Something I don't seem mentioned that I think may be central to all of these symptoms is the RF energy being sent out by the laptops wi-fi card.  You've likely heard the controversy about whether or not cell phones might cause cancer:  the laptop sends out RF energy just like the cell phone does.  With even higher RF levels.
Misc details about the RF card in your notebook
Frequency is 2.4 GHz (same as your microwave oven)
RF module is usually located on bottom of notebook close to top of legs
Sits in the same position for hours vs the phone which usually gets moved from hand to hand

Symptoms I've noticed:
-The tingling sensations within seconds of setting the laptop on my lap.  Too soon for the heat to pass through my jeans as the laptop isn't even warm.
-Since my total knee replacement, the tingling is much more pronounced.  (I'm guessing because there is a chunk of titanium attracting RF)
-I'm going to experiment using tin foil and a pillow under my laptop in an attempt to deflect the energy

I don't have an on/off switch for my modem like my old laptop did, otherwise it would be a simple way to check.
Anyone else heard any discussions along this line I'd be interested in checking them out  thanks

Wow - I have been feeling like my hands are getting radiation treatment for the past year.
It is really awful and I have not found any information about this.   I use my laptop for over 8 hours a day and the palms of my hands are actually red as if they are sun burned.  I have been a software engineering for over 15 years now and never hand any problems with carpel tunnel or anything like that but now that I have been working on a laptop mainly I am having serious pain.
