It's gotta be the radiation coming off of the laptop. i rest the thing on my stomach and it takes about 2 - 3 minutes before it feels messed up. If I put a pillow on my stomach then put the laptop on the pillow it takes a little longer ( 4 - 5 minutes ) to feel messed up

I'm a graphic designer and used the desktop computer for 25 years. I've been using Mac laptop with a pillow or book on my lap for 3 years till last December 2011 is when I first noticed the pain in my thighs. It felt like a burning sensation underneath my skin - really uncomfortable. Then I decided to buy a laptop tray table to keep it off of me but I still get the burning sensation every time I use it. The pain would spread to my lower abs, beneath right ribs, hips, shin area and groin area. I went to an ER and the doctors there never heard of it. He decided to take my blood work and found no evidence which is good. He then referred me to Neurologist (nerves and muscles specialist). I had a MRI and Electromyography test and found nothing. How frustrated because my doctor didn't believe it was caused by computer which I get the burning sensation from both laptop AND desktop. I was mad and decided to do the research online and found this site. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one here but unfortunately others have experienced the same and have no answer to it.

I even get the burning sensation at the coffee shop where several people are using their laptop. (sighs) I feel like that I have no place to hide away from the computer!!!

However, I have a solution for you if you want to continue using your computer. First you must get rid of your laptop because it is too close to your body. We all already exposed to the computer (perhaps radiation or radioactive which cause heat). You will need a desktop computer. I tested my desktop computer by turning everything off (monitor and tower PC). I have to be well (pain free) after 24 hours before the test. I sat down at my computer desk with everything off for half hour and felt no pain (I usually feel the burning sensation in about 10-15 minutes). Then I turned on my monitor alone and sat there for another half hour and felt no pain. Then I turned on the tower PC for about 10 minutes....BINGO! I got the burning sensation. I decided to test it by moving my tower PC into another room with a long cable. AND IT WORKS!!! I am able to use my computer all day without feeling burning pain as long as the tower PC is far away from me. (Wall between me and the tower PC is the best way to do this).

I am thinking of seeking for a 2nd opinion at the Mayo Clinic. We need to have the doctors to recognize the problems and diagnose it!
Please post it here if you have an answer from your doctor. I would love to know the answer to our problem.

FYI - I did thought that the wireless (WIFI) may have caused it and did the test with the wireless turned off but it wasn't the answer. I believe it was some kind of the wave of radiation or radioactive from the computer that our body are more sensitive to it. Like when a frequency hit a specific spectrum from the computer wave goes through our body causing burning sensation than the frequency from the TV, radio or light. It's hard to explain it here but this is the best theory I can give. But that's the doctors and computer companies job to figure it out!

Again...please reply if you have an answer. We may need to let the computer companies know about this so that they need to do something to improve. Thank you!

I am experiencing the same. I have an older Mac and wondering if I should trade it in for something newer. I have a strange numbness, dull aching in my thighs, lower abdomen and at the antecubital area of my arms. I keep thinking of cancer and it makes me nervous. The aches have become persistent after using the computer now, so I am wondering what kind of radiation or waves it is giving off. I know it isn't my imagination, it is clearly present.

I too use my computer on my lap numerous hours a day.  I related the pain in my thigh to the laptop but got a little laptop desk with two fans in it and that solved the problem.  I have to say that in little more than six months I had worn the fan out because I think it was periodically catching on the material of my pants or my comforter.  I now set my new fan on top of the older non-functioning fan desk top as they are both light and I do not have any problems now.

Add another to the list of females experiencing this problem.  Started with burns on the thighs, then felt burning in pelvic and ovary area.  Started using a lap desk, but sensitivity has increased.  Now experience the burning with the computer on a regular desk a little over a foot away.  I also asked my doctor about this and he had no comments.

THE REASON IS RADIOWAVES EMITTED BY THE WI-FI INTERNET! Many studies have shown that it can cause infertility, but the general medical profession are not clued in and as wi-fi is a multi-billion dollar industry, the companies are trying to keep it quiet. I too had terrible pains from my laptop. I switched to a wired modem and the pains stopped. But it could be too late for your health if you don't do something soon.... spread the word and tell your friends not to use wi-fi

Hi every body who use laptop on their laps,

I am a male and had been using a laptop on my lap sometimes during the day. The heat used to cause me discomfort but I would try to ignore it. Somewhere in November 2010 , I noticed (felt) lumps forming on my testicles. (internal). And one of these started growing in size so much so that it formed an abnormal bulge on one side of my scrotum. It wasn't painfull though by itselt but I felt pain on my testicle when I touched it. By February 2011, hydrocelles had formed around both my  testicles and had to be operated in May. Biopsies of the lumps did not show any disease which could have caused them. Although I did not discuss it with my doctor then, I now feel all this could have been caused by radiation or heat from my laptop or from the mobile internet dongle that I use.

Ok, clearly this is a real issue. I've read all the comments and I have exactly the same symptoms. I will have to stop using my iPad while laying in bed, especially when I hold it just above my torso or stomach area, I get this strange feeling ... We have to warn others of the dangers of this ... Thanks guys for all your comments. I thought I was going crazy until I saw how many other people experience the same symptoms around their stomach area when holding their pcs and iPads.
