Hi.,
I am looking for any advice anyone can offer....I am a 49 year old female....for the past couple of years I have suffered with my stomach, diarrhoea, constipation, horrendous lower abdominal bloating, acid reflux, lethargy, sharp pains intermittent in pelvic area, chronic pains again intermittent under breast plate etc etc....after colonoscopy and numerous prescribed meds by GP was diagnosed with IBS.....but I am not convinced this is the answer and symptoms have not improved, infact stomach has bloated even more in last few months....I am fed up with feeling c**p all the time, I have a good diet, do not each potatoes, or much bread...I had a hysterectomy 30 years ago......and have one ovary left (to my knowledge)...........Anyone please have any suggestions, thank you.

I was "diagnosed" with IBS after the Gastro guy did a colonoscopy (negative) and a bunch of ultrasounds. They did find I had enlarged prostate and I had surgery for that (laser - worked great - but didn't affect the) "quesy stomach" and tiredness. I was told that IBS can be caused by a "trigger food" - though it's really tough to find that - ,or by mental stress. After my gastro guy said he couldn't find a reason I went to a medical psychiatrist who put me on two things. Lorazapran (low dose) that helps but only for a few hours - still better than nothing - and now LEXAPRO - which worked for about 2 weeks and then good and bad days. We increased dose yesterday.
I do sleep well (actually sleep longer than I used to) but wake up tired. Yes, it's not fun having no energy. When I mention IBS to many friends they all seem to have had it (well many!) and yet they can't tell me how they were able to deal with it. It just went away.
Not sure if any of the above helps you but maybe others will see this post and chime in.
Oh, BTW, I have Medicare so much of all these expensive tests have - thankfully - been covered.
