You are my twin!!! i am dealing with every single symtpom u have described.... After reading your post i instantly subscribed to this site. As i read your post i was literally get choked up because i am seeing someone going through the same nonsense im going through.. I saw a gastro who diagnosed me in 2002 with h. pylori, since then i went down hill.. so downhill now 11 yrs later i feel like im dying and developed a whole slew of problems. i didnt stay with that first gastro cause he was an a$$ so i found a new gastro that i been going to since... i was treated for the h pylori but was left with the aftermath... she did say this gerd/gastritis, etc is causing a vagal response. She also said i have a hiatal hernia and then i go to her again cause my symptoms are worsening and all of a sudden i dont have a hiatal hernia anymore.. i feel that she is jut trying to keep me sick for her to make money... im sure u know how drs can be , they dont wanna cure they wanna keep you sick to stay in business.... (maybe not all ) but so far i havent felt any dr be much help.. and wanna push anxiet meds and heatburn meds that dont work for me anymore.... i ried all ppi's known to man,lol.. and nothing works anymore.... i ended up in the hospital so many times with feeling s.o.b and bloating and like im being strangled by my own stomach... anything i eat causes some flare up in my stomach, esophagus and in the back of my nose... it is so bad im down to eating only veges ,fruit and water. i am constantly in a fog and dizzy and blood presure feels like it drops and i feel faint.... i know this is all stemming from the stomach and affecting the vagus nerve(the nerve tht controls all our bodily functions). everything u named , i have.... keep me posted,please....... i am at witz end too.... :(
How long did it take for your esophagitis to heal? I wonder if I should try switching from Protonix to Nexium. My full story is below: Any comments / suggestions would be appreciated! I never would have thought that having acid reflux could affect your life so much - like you, I've also been wanting to try some acupuncture and yoga - ANYTHING, I'LL DO ANYTHING! To make my throat feel better.
I've had a really frustrating last few months and wanted to share my story with hopes that someone else could relate.
A few months ago, I started experiencing this weird throat pressure and fullness. It almost feels like someone is pressing on my throat. Also, I have excessive mucus on the back of my throat, a cough, and itchy throat at times too. This is pretty much CONSTANT! At times I also feel like my throat is constricting from the inside (If that makes sense) It it the most AWFUL feeling I've ever experienced.
I went to see a gastro doc, and he did and Upper Endoscopy which showed Mild Reactive Esophagitis and Mild Gastritis. (I also have GERD) *Of note, I also have a sore and tender stomach, have had this for months too!
I was taking some acid reducers (Zantac / Omeprazole) before the throat issue started, and I'm now on Protonix.
I pretty much feel this 24/7 and it's so hard, because I'm a nursing student, and I work Part-time - - - I'm constantly on the go, and constantly in discomfort! It is really draining. I am so sick of my throat bothering me. I do have "better" days, and then some days are absolutely awful.
Can an inflammed throat cause this much discomfort? I know I have acid reflux, although I don't think it's that severe. I feel like although I was diagnosed with Mild Esophagitis, that maybe there is something else going on too? I am soooooooooooooooo frustrated.
I've seen an allergist, couldn't find any allergies - put me on some Zyrtec anyways. I've tried anti-anxiety meds (much to my dismay, b/c I hate taking anything at all) and they didn't help. This is NOT an anxiety issue!
I do need to lose about 20lbs and clean up my diet, so I'm working on that - - I've looked up LPR, and some of my symptoms fit that too. I just worry that after taking 6 weeks of the PPI's that this won't get any better? Plus, the side effects really suck (Dizziness / Fatigue) and then there is NO relief in the meantime.
I've had tons of blood tests, upper endoscopy, barium swallow with biopsies. So, no Cancer. Liver / Kidney / Blood Counts are all within normal range. No infections either. I guess I just have to trust the doctors and wait this out.
Has anyone tried any home remedies to get some relief? Has anyone else felt this throat thickness/pressure/mucus thing with acid reflux?
Thank you all for your comments and support. I'm at my wits end with this!
Well, that was incredibly long and frankly hard to read because of the lack of paragraph breaks, but it sounds like you are dealing with a genuine medical nightmare and a lack of proper diagnosis. If you have gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and esophagitis, that would explain your stiff stomach and many of the other symptoms, but that is an awful lot of different medical conditions for just one person to have, and that apparently isn't even half of it.
I can only say I'm sorry you're dealing with all this without a satisfactory solution in sight, and I hope you will find the answers and cure/management you are looking for some day soon.
The numbness in my arms and face got worst. Usually it is in my left arm and mostly during the night but one night my right arm feel completely dead and I had to use my left arm to move the dead right arm from the bed and place it in my lap, then circulation came back. I got really scared as I never felt complete paralysis in my arm like that before. I thought about my heart but I have a very healthy heart and circulation. Also I have a burn in the same spot right over my heart. It feels like a constant heart attack all day long! I drink 1 bottle of Gaviscon every time I feel heartburn, like 3 times a day. Also my blood pressure for the first time is a little high, average 130/80, so I think it maybe because I do not work out 3 X a week anymore or maybe its the damn PPI drugs. I do not ever want high blood pressure so I have been eating lots of Cheerios.
Oct, 1, 2013.
I ran 1 1/2 miles 3 X in the last 2 weeks and I feel a little light headed when I get home but it goes away. Also 1/3 the way into my run, my chest starts to burn and feel like I am having a heart attack but i tell myself it is just the acid splashing in my chest, because I am very healthy and have ran 2 marathons.
I keep thinking its H Pylori but i have been tested negative twice and I tried meds for gastroParesis and it didnt work. Also I have slept on 3 tall pillows every night for the last 12 months and I sleep no other way, to answer all the previous posts from you folks.
I had went to my new Gastro Doc and begged him to start all over and see why I have been feeling like I am having a stroke, numb limbs and bad bloating and burning in the chest.
They did an MRI of my Brain and Neck. My Gastro doctor said my Brain looked good and that I have Spondylosis and Arthritis in my neck. (I had a bad car accident 2 years ago and a small accident 5 months ago which I was in therapy for. They found a 5mm disk herniation in my lower back and 1mm disk herniation in my neck, which all the doctors from this accident and my personal doc said the damage is not touching any where near my spine. But they are sending me to get a second opinion to look to see if they are maybe pinching nerves in my neck that may be causing my face and arms feeling numb sometimes).
I had my new gastro doc to do a 3rd MRI and the results: A 1cmm Hiatal Hernia in my stomach and the same Esophagitis. (That finally explains why I feel like blacking-out when the gas/bloat gets soo bad. I read a hiatal hernia sometimes get soo bad it causes suffocation and causes acid to constantly splash in the throat. The doctor took biopsies and I am waiting for my follow up visit to discuss everything, but the nurse told me they do not do any type of surgery to a Hiatal Hernias normally because of the fail rate and complications. However I feel my problem is bad enough for surgery.
My face and arms are not as numb any more. I notice I kinda get the stroke like symptoms when I stress or fuss and my chest gets painful so I learned to calm down and think about something else.
Will see in a week if I am getting more/new meds or surgery?

TOLD TO TAKE 1 DEXILANT 60MG FIRST THING IN THE MORNING THEN 1 RANITIDINE AT 5PM EVERYDAY TO LAST ME THRU THE EVENING AND NIGHT. I HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BETTER BUT STILL HAVING THE TERRIBLE BLOAT, THEN FEELING LIKE I AM GOING TO PASS OUT FEELINGS EVERY SO OFTEN. ALSO I CONTINUE TO HAVE A CONSTANT BURN RIGHT OVER MY HEART AREA BECAUSE OF ACID I SUPPOSE. I STILL GET THE GHOST HEADACHES AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WAKING UP AT NIGHT WITH CONSTANT RUMBLING STOMACH AND HEARTBURN AND NECK AREA FEELS LIKE ITS CLOSING. I WOULD ALWAYS SLEEP WITH A BOTTLE OF WATER NEXT TO MY BED AND A BOTTLE OF GAVISCON. I WOULD WAKE UP AND TAKE A SWIG OF WATER AND GAVISCON, BURP AND FART AND WATCH TV FOR SEVERAL HOURS TIL I FALL ASLEEP.
NOW I CALLED MY GASTRO DOCTOR COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING THESE SAME RESULTS SO NOW HE PRESCRIBED ME ALSO BACLOFEN 10MG (WHICH IS SORT OF A MUSCLE RELAXER) TO HELP RELAX MY LOWER ESOPHO SPHINCTER. I TRIED THE BACLOFEN 10 MG, AFTER WORKING ON CONSTRUCTING A HOUSE AND BEING STRESSED ALL DAY AND WAS HAVING SOME STOMACH, GERD ATTACKS AFTER WORK, THEN THE BACLOFEN HAD ME FEELING VERY VERY WEIRD. I FELT LIKE MY ARMS WAS TINGLING AND DID NOT HELP. I TRIED THE BACLOFEN A COUPLE MORE TIMES AND IT DIDNT DO A DAMN THING AND MADE EITHER MY NECK FEEL STIFF AND CREATED SERIOUS ANXIETY.
I STILL HAVE A STRUGGLE THINKING THE WORST IS HAPPENING TO ME AND THAT MY LIFE IS BEING CUT SHORT BECAUSE OF THIS STOMACH ISSUE.
I WANT TO ALSO ADD THAT I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A 1CM DISK HERNIATION IN MY NECK/CERVICAL AND SPONDYLOSIS AND MINOR ARTHRITIS AND ALSO 1 4CM DISK HERNIATION IN MY BACK L4 L5 AREA. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I AM SUING A COMPANY FOR HITTING ME IN MY TRUCK 5 MONTHS AGO AND HAD TO GET AN MRI. HOWEVER THESE PROBLEMS REALLY CAME ABOUT WHEN I WAS TBONED HIT HARD BY A CAR THAT RAN A RED LIGHT 3 YEARS AGO AND NOW I AM JUST GETTING BACK AND NECK PROBLEMS, BUT I AM BLAMING ALL THIS NOW ON THIS CURRENT ACCIDENT.
Any chance that a doctor took a few biopsy and checked for eosinophilic esophagitis and eosinophilic gastritis? It seems not a lot of doctors are aware of this. They should not find eosinophil's in tissue and if they do find them then they indicate that if more then like 15 in a certain sample it could be this. They are not likely to be discovered in a blood test. This condition also does not respond well to PPI's. Prednisone does help. Just a thought as I have been going through hell to and will find out Nov 14 2013 what my biopsy showed. If it is due to eosinophil's it would actually answer a great many issues I have had. Look it up see what you think.
November 1, 2013,
I started having some of the same symptoms with bloating going all the way up into my neck and head, periodically during the day. Also I was getting a very bad constant BURN in one spot right near my HEART everyday and all day long. I was going thru 1 bottle of Gaviscon liquid every week, so because of the high price of it, I started using the Walmart brand liquids for ACID reducing. These liquids helped a little. I was fed up with the constant burn in that one spot in my chest and one day after a long day at work, I was preparing some food to put on the bbq grill when I felt the worse BURNING sensation around my liver area that made me feel like I was going to pass out!
I then started to try to relax and drink water like every time these attacks happen. I also am still sort of scared throughout the day worrying something worse is in me.
I went back to my Gastro Dr. Snyder and he said my EGD only show inflammation and the hiatal hernia could not cause these terrible attacks. He told me to change the times of my medicine, one Dexilant 60mg in the morning before breakfast, Take 10ml of Sulcrafate(Carafate) liquid 4X a day before or after meals and 1 Ranitidine before bed. Halejuah!
This stuff worked! I am able to sleep good at night and be comfortable at work and even start exercising again! The Sulcrafate(Carafate) liquid coats the esophagus, the burning/ulcer feel in my chest and settles my stomach. However I developed a little constipation the first 2 weeks of drinking the Carafate and developed a small start of a hemmrrhoid. I also have developed a worsening cluster headaches when I turn my head or neck in certain positions. I do have arthritis in my neck from an accident and weight lifting. The headaches feel like mini shocks going thru my frontal lobe scalp.

I am doing much much better. One thing also I can tell you is that I ran out of Dexilant the other day and really did not want to go and buy another bottle of this $58 medicine so I bought a 14-day supply of Prilosec from Walgreens. I took 1 Prilosec in the morning and drink the Carafate as needed now. I have even slacked-off on taking the RANITIDINE before going to bed mostly. I am doing much better and have started to run 1 1/2-2 miles 2x a week and go to the gym and do light weight lifting. When I go to the gym, I make sure and stop drinking water or eat at least 30 mins before because it causes the acid to swish around and possibly come up in the throat. I went to see a Neurologist about the neck and head pain and took some recent Brain MRIs cd I had. The Dr. Bhat the Neurologist told me that I was not having a stroke or aneurysm. She said if the shooting pain is around the frontal lobe and improves every so often, then they are 'Transient Neurological pains' or Paroxysmal shooting pain and are caused by STRESS! She said I may appear like a stoic person but I may be bottling up stress inside and not show it. She examined my head and neck and said my Neck was very stiff and that I need a massage.
I went for a 1hr massage and they worked on mostly my neck /shoulder area and I have had the shooting headaches pain reduced but not all the way so I will get theses massages from AVALON MASSAGE school here in Houston for $40.
I have come to a conclusion that I may have a problem with Anxiety and Stress and learned that my stomach issues have created 'Health Anxiety'. WTF, and what next! I have been reading some articles on google on how to treat this and I am doing some worksheets now that will help. It states that Health Anxiety causes a person to: constantly schedule doctors appointments to resolve a health problem that is not that life-threatening, fear of dying, always be checking your body for blemishes, bruises or differences, or noticing every little pain in my body and become on alert to run to the emergency room. I have every one of these symptoms! Also this creates your body to produce other pain/ issues because of the stress......I have a long road ahead of me to healing but its getting resolved..............

I have had exactly the same issues and reading that gives me hope in some way.I am a 35 year old female, and my stomach swells up so bad I have to wear spanx sometimes. I too felt numbness and like no one was listening to me. Im on the prilosec and librax. Nothing seems to help and I feel sometimes like I am going crazy. Swimming was the ONLY thing that helped when I was able, and baths. I lose my appetite very easily. This was the first post I have read that I can relate to. This has ruined my life!!
I am a 35 year old female, who until recently considered myself healthy. I had a colonoscopy, a endoscopy, etc, and GERD is what they came up with. My left side feels like its going to rupture and the drs dont seem to get it as my ct scan a few months ago was normal. I've noticed if I drink alcohol or not it doesnt make a difference is the swelling. I feel like I'm going crazy and cant wrap my head around this. H.pilori negative. I wouldn't wish this on anyone and it's scaring me to death. Maybe I need to see a homeopathic dr......I need advice!!!!!!!
