I have been having an internal pain in my genital area for the last 1.5 months. It seems like I am carrying a wound from inside and it gives out
these muscle spasms time and again. My vaginal area feels hot and sensitive
and now even my rectal area is starting to feel hot and the muscle spasms seem to hit there too. I am very confused with all the symptoms- i was on antibiotics for 3 days on the generic version of Bactim to see if it was UTI- that didn;t solve the issue so I am now on Anti protozoal medication. I have taken the anti spomodial and anti protozoal medication for a day now.It has made no difference to the pain. I am going to wait for 3 more days as the doc suggested to see if there is any releif.
I will be going to get my blood tested for STD and pap smeer test done too.
Do any of these symptoms seem familiar to anyone? I am extremely worried.
Any idea what this might be?

I have had similar problems. Everytime we have sex it is very uncomfortable and pain. It is all internal and it seems that it is concentrated in a ring in one area of my vagina. Just last night my boyfriend got curious and started looking around, he found that there was an internal tear and all that I can information for is external stuff. I think this tear is new, from last night, but there is definately an irritated spot in there. I'm kind of leary to go to a doctor because of all the negative resopnses I have found today. Help??

If STD lab tests come back negative, there is a high possibility that during foreplay or if you were masturbating you or your partners fingers may have cut you open. Even so small that you didn't even really notice it during the event that caused it.
However, on tearing/splitting/cutting open your vaginal wall you run the risk of developing infection (which in some people thier body can succesfully fight). The muscle twitches are related to a thing called, "The Ouch Factor" if you touch something hott dont you jerk away? Same idea, but also infections can cause other issues internally which can cause spasms :/... Anti-Biotics are pretty mucht he way to go, also using a dusche (however spelt) will help clean the area out (as much as it might hurt, think salt water on a kankersore). Definetly recomended that you seek medical assistance if the problems do not go away with in a few days or if what ever medicine you are taking does not assist.
Also a note on medicine... do not prescribe yourself medicine... such as taking an old wounds medicine. Docotors regulate dossage and if you are not getting enough of a dosage he would adjust it. When self medicating on Anti-Biotics you run the risk of taking them too long of a time and eventually anti-biotics CAN (but not always) become an illness of thier own and turn on your system, someone help me on that, is that serum syndrome? Anyways... BAD
So for the first poster, if your sysmptoms are still prominant and it has been some days and you feel as though the pain/sensation is moving, than there maybe a risk the infection is spreading and you need to see your doctor immediatly. As for the other people, give it 2-3 days with out sex (time to heal) as yes, more sex will aggrivate the wound (pick the scab). If the pain does not go away after that, hit the doctor up.

Over the past year and a half I have had a reacurance of these vaginal spasms in my vaginal wall that seem to occur either during my period or most frequently around the time I am ovulating. It is not isolated to one spot, but always on or around the pelvic floor somewhere between the 3 and 9 o'clock area depending on the month. These wave can last for a couple of days around the clock and vary in degree of discomfort. But it feels like a charlie horse in there sometimes and the chroncic pain can be maddening after a few days even when the pain is not as intense in that perticular month. I have gone many months without an occurance, but lately it is happening with great frequency sometimes twice in one month. It seems to be hormone driven given the times of the month it is occuring. I need some relief. My doctor says she has never heard of this. I had a baby four and a half years ago and I am not currently sexually active.

i too have been experiencing pain inside my vagina. It feels like if something is pulling down on it. I constantly have the feeling like if i have to urinate, but when i do, only a VERY tiny bit comes out and has an extrmely painful finaly. Also whenever i wipe myself there is blood on the tissue but i am not on my period. I have had this pain for about 6 days now. it all started after having sex with my fiance about 6 days ago. I always have a hard time sitting on his penis because i feel it touching my stomach and it feels painful. It feels so bad that i barely want to stand up work. My work is kind of demanding and involves alot of walking around. What should i do?? it really hurts and i always dread having to have sex because of the pain i experience after, but canno bring myself to say no because i know he enjoys it. ????...???????????

Hi!
I also have vaginal and rectal spasms and pain for 6 years now and the doctors here in South Africa cannot help me because they do not know what is causing the spasms and pain.
I have used several medications and went to over 50 specialists and not one can help me. I am using morphine at the moment.
The pain is VERY severe! I had to stop my studies and I'm still staying with my parents and cannot continue my studies. I cannot walk, sit or ride in a car. because it worsens the pain.
My vaginal wall feels like a taught band and it just keep getting worse! It is very painfull! I'm not sexually active so that cannot be the cause of the pain.
I hope that you will get an answer and wish you all the best.

You ladies need to see treatment for VAGINISMUS.
The girl who hasn't urinated should have sought treatment right away.

Hi all, I have had this problem continuously for the last 2 years. Before that it was occasional and came and went every so often. I have a dull ache and numbness inside my vagina but it is only on one side. Sometimes it's worse than others going from a mild achy sensation to a strong ache which radiates down my leg also (also on the same side). I lost my virginity in 2005 and have been paranoid about stds ever since as I had never experienced these symptoms before sex. I actually went for STD testing with the intensive of putting my mind at rest, everything was negative but I still can't help thinking it could have been wrong. Since oct last year (2008) I have also had external symptoms too these have also been continuous - redness, itching, sometimes dry peely skin sometimes moist with white sticky discharge. Don't know if my internal and external symptoms are connected? My main worry is the ache and numbness inside and the fact that my leg aches 99% of the time, I just don't know what could be causing this and as yet haven't plucked up courage to go back to my doctor for further investigation. If anyone could shed any light on what my symptoms suggest it would be very my appreciated as I'm wondering how much more I can take!

Reading through this thread, I feel worried that a few of you have been holding off going for treatment, and if you have cystitis (UTI) for more than a day you really need to get treatment. Ouch!
Things that cause pain / discharge / burning:
1) Thrush. Yeast overgrowth, interestingly often comes around when your normal bacteria can't balance it. Can occur simply due to stress. But can also be passed between partners (so if you have it, and you have a partner, get him treated too). Discharge can be thick and white (but not always).
Simple to treat - get it confirmed by a doctor, then you get a pessary and sometimes cream. Not due to people being dirty! And it can cause your vaginal skin to peel, and small "cuts" to open in the creases.
2) Bacteria Vaginitis (Gardnerella): similar to thrush but caused by bacteria overgrowth. And the discharge can smell bad / fishy. You should try and see if this gets better by itself as the antibiotics are pretty nasty, but if it hangs around for ages, then go to the doctor. Remember not to use soap to clear yourself down there - don't put anything on your vagina you wouldn't put in your eye!
Olive oil is a very good barrier, and natural, unlike petroleum based oils.
3) UTI / cystitis: this makes it burn when you want to pee. Drink heaps of water, and urinary alkalizers. It may go away by itself, but if not you will start to see blood in your urine. And it can eventually lead to kidney infection - so if you have it for more than 24 hours, even after drinking heaps of water go to the doctor. treatment is usually Trimethoprim, or nitrofurantoin.
Some people say drink cranberry juice, but you need heaps to make a difference (it stop bacteria sticking to the internal walls) and it can actually irritate people who suffer from Institial Cystitis.
4) Herpes. You can get this from someone going down on you who has a cold sore. From someone with genial herpes you have had sex with. Or you can even past it on to yourself if you get cold sores. It's not like the little splits in the skin you get from Thrush. It causes ulcers. Even if they are small they are obviously ulcer-shaped and hurt more than they should.
When it comes on you can get pain that feels like you are developing a UTI.
5) Other STIs - you need to get checked for these too, before you start panicking and looking for other causes. Note that chlamydia takes at least 2 weeks to show up after you've caught it, and HIV 6 months!
If you are completely clear of everything, then you need to consider that you might have Institial Cystitis or some other auto-immune type problem attacking your nerves. Many women suffer from pain that can't be diagnosed.
So, the golden rule: get to the doctor, get tested for everything to rule out all the normal possibilities before panicking. They see this stuff all the time, so get over your embarrassment, put on your brave face and make an appointment.

Canurelate...you state you are experiencing painful intercourse, where it hurts in your stomach during sex. I can relate to this. I've dealt with painful intercourse for several years. I was diagnosed with endometriosis. You may want to talk to your doctor or obgyn to check for this. My endometriosis is a mild case. I have friends who have severe cases in which surgery is required to remove. This is one of many possible diagnosis for your symptoms. I suggest you see your doctor as soon as possible. Noone wants to be miserable while they are supposed to be enjoying intercourse. Good luck to you.

Okay- sparing details is not the problem here.
Exact personal symptoms incld: Pain on external skin extending around anus, sometimes into what seems the muscle itself. Pain internally that seems to shoot outward on left side.Occasional pain when having a bowel movement. ALWAYS have pain during and after sex, more so after I had my son. No discharge or smell and no bleeding, but I do tend to 'dry' up during sex and have better luck enjoying myself if we don't use a condom and use a natural water based lubricant.
GOOD NEWS
I was tested for ALL STDs and there is absolutely nothing like that going on. So now I am looking into various causes for this pain like ENDOMETRIOSIS and VAGINISMUS. It could also be related to a separate illness unknown. I was treated with an antibiotic just incase and that did not change the pain. How ever, I started washing my underwear and pants in DREFT a hypoallergenic detergent for infants, and that helps a little. The pain worsens around my period, so I also switched to using all cotton natural unscented pads, which seems to reduce the pain. Hormone therapy may help so talk to your doctor about getting on a birth control and switching your current one. DO NOT start douching or using vaginal cremes without your doctors consent. It could make the pain worse. Also try taking showers instead of baths and use gentle soaps like Johnson's for babies :-)
Good luck,
I know how much it sucks :-(
