Hey everyone. Ok, this is something that has been plaguing me for quite some time now, going on 8 months now. For some reason, back when I was dating and sleeping with my GF at the time, I developed a redness on and around the head of my penis. Thnking this was nothing but chaffing, I didn't worry about it. Eventually, it got worse and spread all down the shaft and was red, itchy, scaley, all that stuff. That part has all gone waway (the dryness, itchy, scaley part) and was deemed by my dermatologist as a case of eczema. But threw the whole time, this swollen lump appears on the left side of the urethra opening. It hurts like hell after ejaculation, making sex an afterthought. I do try to masturbate a bit just to keep healthy, but afterwards it still hurts. I had gone to my urologist to find solutions. STD's were negative, and he did say that for some reason, the skin is swollen around the entire opening and could be caused by the previous infection. He said that it is not a worry because there is no cyst-like bumps, the glands are fine, no burning/bleeding at all. But I dunno now. It has been too long now and it just remains the same. I do not have multiple sex partners, I am circumsized, I am basically healthy. Any ideas? I just want the big guy back to normal. In hind site, the best way to describe what is going on is the area surrounding the opening of my penis is red and swollen, and part of it looks like a lump. Almost like the inner tissue of the urethra is coming out too much. My erections and all that are fine. ANy help would be appreciated. (By the way..I haven't had sex in 7 months)

Hi! Has any of your doctors considered urethritis? Have you had urethral smear done (or whatever it is called?)
I had the redness around my glans, itchiness, and it would hurt sometimes during urination. I was sure it was bacterial infection or an STD although my girlfriend had no symptoms what so ever.
I went to see an urologist who took the swab out, boy was that an experience! I wouldn’t wanted it for anybody but it appeared to be a necessity.
Luckily I had no STD’s and urethritis seemed to be caused by spermicides from condoms or different lotions and creams my girlfriend and I used to use.
Are you sure this isn’t eczema as well?

Yeah, I know it isn't eczema. The Drs. both think that it is something left over from the eczema infecton. Urethritis huh? Gonna have to check that out. Never thought about that....

OK, well looked into urethritis. It doesn't appear to resemble anything I have seen thus far, cuz it is not leaking any fluid, pus, mucous..just stays red and inflammed. Kinda goes up and down. As I stated, very visible with an erection. Again, its almost like the skin is sticking out too much or something. I dunno. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Ive had similar problems... in my case I got gonnahrea from receiving oral sex and had that treated... only symptoms I ever had were irritation at the opening of my urethra and some red skin on the under side of my penis... this was 18 months ago... ive was treated promptly for the infection but the symptoms have remained.
In any case... just to clairify a few things in your case...
Eczema isnt an infection... its basically your immune system over reacting to something... probably the lotions/creams you mentioned using. The is not bug that causes it and no cure to get rid of it... unfortunately.
Urethritis is an inflamation/irritation of the urethra... when its accompanied by discharge its usually a bacterial infection or STD... but any irritation is urethritis. So id say thats what you probably have... the question is... whats the cause and how do you treat it.
Here are a few causes (hey ive went to alot of doctors trying to solve mine) lol.
Urethra Stricture
If theres an infection sometimes it causes scaring and the scar tissue present constricts the flow thru the urethra causing pain when things go thru it. For this to happen you would have likely had to have an infection (not just eczema) at some point.
Prostate Problems
its possible that prostatitis (a prostate infection), inlarged prostate, etc. can cause problems in the urethra.
Yeast
Yep, guys can get the little fellers too... especially if you have had long courses of antibiotics. I actually had this once after a 30 day antibiotic course... it took me weeks and 2 different doctors before a dermatologist of all people (she was a female) thought of yeast and treated for it... gone in 24hrs once treated. :-)
What kind of treatment did you get for your eczema?

Hello Sparta,
I don't know whether you have any experience with eczeme or not. In some cases eczema cannot be controlled unless your blood sugar is under control, and you may have to undergo a stage 3 treatment for eczema. That means oral steroids. When my blood sugar is out of control, my eczema crops up. I usually treat it with Triamcinalone (Rx). But when it is severe, then steroids are required.
Regards,
Joe

Hey guys, I'm a 20 year old male and I've been scouring the internet for
a solution to this problem I'm having. I'm not sure how it set on, but
it occurred after I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend (She hasn't
developed anything and has been tested extensively). I assumed it was
because I didn't shower immediately after.
Basically the tip of my penis (around the bottom side of the opening of my urethra) is red and looks irritated. The lips on both sides of the opening appear somewhat swollen as well. It seems to get more irritated at times and seems to alleviate the next day. Just back and forth but never really gets better. It's been about 2 and 1/2 months. Other symptoms seem to be...
-Might be my imagination, but more frequent urination.
-for the first month, tip of penis experienced a stinging sensation
-affected area felt extremely cold occasionally, for the first few weeks
-Don't really notice any discharge, maybe greenish tinge to my piss? what.
-Pee usually dark
-Became extremely irritated after masturbation, I have stopped that as well as sex.
Okay so heres where it gets frustrating. It seems that doctors don't know what is wrong with me (I've shown 2 and consulted with another). I have been tested for STD's and infections but everything has come up negative. I almost wish I had herpes or something just so I could know what the hell is wrong with me at this point. The best advice a doctor has given me thus far is to apply cortisone on my !**@!. Didn't help at all.
So I started looking online and realized that SO MANY dudes are having this same problem. I followed advice and started using tea tree oil on the affected area, which seemed to actually help the redness. But I stopped using it for a day or two and now it's about as bad as ever. Once again, NO PAIN anymore, which doesn't seem to be the situation with most of the posts I've seen concerning this problem.
Really at a loss for what to do. All forums talk about this problem, but there is never a solution.
According to forums, could be anything from ballantis, Prostatitis, HPV wart inside urethra.
Doctors tests have found nothing wrong. What should I do?
I'm a journalist and I swear if we figure this out Ill have this published so guys like us don't have to go through hell and self-diagnoses over the internet.
If you have the answer please, post the answer or send a message to my inbox.
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm glad I found this post as I'm also having similar problems...
..If anybody has found any answers I would love to hear back..
...I'll keep this as brief as possible...
..2 years ago..had sex with new partner ( used condom )
..6 days later a small spot appeared on tip of penis and red patch around the tip
..quite dark red looking inside the pee hole ( not sure of correct name )
....
..I went to the GUM clinic and was tested for all STDs and herpes etc...all was ok
( I actually went 3 times and got tested 3 times just to be sure )
..I went to see a dermatologist...he said nothing to do with him and to go and see a urologist
..the urologist said nothing to worry about..just go about life as normal ( easier said than done )
..the urologist actually said it would have been caused by friction from having sex..
..Really !!...if thats the case why did it appear about a week after having sex ??
..I paid to go and see a private urologist as not happy with the first,
..he was not much better...said I might have torn a bit of skin within the shaft when I was having sex ??
..I have seen several different doctors...they all say the same
" well you have been tested and nothing has shown up so dont worry ! "
The thing is people can tell me what it isn't...nobody can tell me what it is..
..I have also tried quit a few different anti fungal creams and steroid creams etc with no joy..
..I have tried not washing it for a few weeks in case soap was irritating it ( just washed with water )
plus I have tried non hypo soaps etc
but nothing seems to help
I have been keeping away from women since as I dont know if what I have is contagious ?
for two years it has constantly been there and never really got any better but also never got worse
..I'm really puzzled by this
If anybody has any ideas I would love to hear from you
Cheers...
