Hi, I have a problem that enables me to have normal sexual intercourse. Whenever I have sex, my penis gets irritated and hurts a bit. This also happens when I masturbate, so I would say I have a chronic penis irritation. I am positive this is not normal, but I have no idea how to deal with this problem. Should I see a doctor about my penis irritation?

Hi, I have had the same problem for years, until my girlfriend explained why this was happening to me. When you have sexual intercourse it is very important that you have good lubrication. Rubbing of skin against the skin is irritating and if there is not enough lubrication present, you develop your problem. This goes for masturbation too. Also I have noticed that some condoms can cause the same reaction. You should try various types until you find the one that suits you best. My girlfriend and I use a water based lubricant when we have sex and this helps a lot. You should try this too. I hope it will help you. But, if the irritation continues you should see an urologist for a consultation.

It’s actually not abnormal at all – especially if you think about what the penis is going through during masturbation or sex. The friction alone could cause irritation, so a lube is definitely a good idea, but you could also be sensitive to a soap or detergent you are using. If you or someone in your family has eczema or psoriasis, that is also a possibility, so it’s a good idea to get it checked out. One thing that might help is a penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) that has vitamins A and E, which are good for soothing irritated skin, as well as moisturizers to help it heal and protect against chafing.
