Hello, folks. My son has been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and suffesr from respiratory insufficiency. I would like to know if lung transplantation is bottom line for this disease’s treatment. Hi, there. Cystic fibrosis can be really serious disease. Respiratory insufficiency is a common complication of this disease. I guess your son is already on oxygen treatment. Lung transplantation can be a solution. Diseased lungs are removed and replaced with recently deceased donor’s lungs. Sometimes, lobe from more live donors can be taken. In any case, I would suggest you a thorough consultation with the doctors. This procedure is not a piece of cake. There are many things that should be considered. Good luck!
