When my boyfriend was about four years old, he had kidney failure and it had to be removed. Shortly after this, his other kidney was having some problems and it has never worked 100% since. I know he saw a kidney specialist every year up until the age of 16. This specialist told him that if he lived a healthy life- didn't smoke or drink, and ate really well- he would live to be in his middle ages. He is now 23, and for the past six or seven years he drank and smoked everyday, and has done many drugs. I am really worried about his health as he says that he thinks he only has approx. ten years left. I have asked him to go see a specialist but he is scared of the outcome. Is it possibly for him to live longer than another ten years or is that unknown unless he sees a kidney specialist? Is there anyway for him to reverse the damage that he has done to his kidney?

Do you think that he would be open to making some changes to help heal his body instead of abusing it?  I'm an herbalist and I work with herbs, nutrition, I look to create health in the body.  Our body is really very smart and if we treat it really well, it will treat us well.

Actually he is. Since we got together, his drinking has slowed down considerably. He can go a whole week now without a drink which was hard for him before. He can even go a week without somking and he talks about quiting. He is also trying really hard to get off the drug that he is on now. I see that he is trying to get healthy, but I am worried that the damage he has done to himself is not reversable. Do you have any suggestions?
