So I was diagnosed with Depression and  Anxiety about 6 or 7 years ago. After a year of different cocktails of anti-depressants, we found that Venlafaxine worked best for me. It got amped up to 300mg. Since then I've put on 30kgs. I have tried literally "EVERYTHING" to lose weight, nothing works. I'm an emotional eater and I lack the motivation to continue a strict diet after a week. It's literally driving me crazy. Please don't recommend exercise as I don't have the energy or the strength to do it. I hardly eat food and when I do, it's so little. I can eat salads and stuff but I wont even lose a cm. I am dying here, It is literally affecting every area of my life, as a mom, wife, employee, friend, daughter. I feel like a failed human. I can't afford liposuction or a gastric band so I have to do it the hard way.

Hello, Depressed1GP.

Venlafaxine is an antidepressant medication that belongs to a class of drugs called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). One of the known side effects of SNRIs is weight gain. In addition, depression itself can also cause weight gain, so it can be difficult to determine if the medication or the underlying condition is responsible for the weight gain.

If you are concerned about your weight and have been unable to lose weight despite your efforts, it is important to speak with your healthcare provider. They can help determine if your medication is contributing to your weight gain and may be able to adjust your dosage or switch you to a different medication that is less likely to cause weight gain.

In addition, there are several lifestyle changes that can help with weight loss, such as increasing physical activity, reducing caloric intake, and making healthier food choices. Your healthcare provider can also refer you to a dietitian or weight loss specialist who can provide additional guidance and support.

It's important to remember that losing weight can be a slow process, and it's important to be patient and consistent with your efforts. With the right support and guidance, it is possible to achieve your weight loss goals while still managing your depression with medication.

How are you now?
