OK Ladies boy do I know what you mean. I have the blood blisters for years and had multiple tests. All clean here. I did ask my gyno once about them when one poped and bled for several days. At the time my doctor said she had never seen anything like it and went and had her partner to come in with her to get her opinion. Mine do not hurt or iche in fact if I didn't look I would have never known I had them. The doctor told me that since I have been tested for everything and I have nothing that not to worry about them. But I am with every one else this is embarrasing and I refuse to let my husband down there. He saids it doesn't bother him that they are there but they bother me. As far as I can tell there is no cure and if they don't hurt or itch and don't bother you don't bother them. I will say this as far as my under ware to tight I can't stand any thing tight any where down there. So with me that is not the problem.

Now as far as the bumps that are hard and hurt I have had two of those my self to and went to the doctor for those also. Believe it or not they were boels. In my care they had to open the first manually and it hurt like crazy even with numbing medication. But this is what I do now since I did have another one but did not have to go to the doctor with it because they had advised me to start taking a bath with the water as hot as you can stand it with epison salt in it. This really does work and it saved me money. I have only had two but that was enough for me. Now I take epison salt baths at least onced a month just to be on the safe side.

As for the blood blisters I just live with them because there is nothing I can do about them. I have proof that I am clean and if a man sees them I just tell him what they are and move on.

Life sure does suck for women so deal with all the bull and thank god for those who have the same problem and understand.

Hey Ladies,
I've had the same issue many of you seem to be describing here. I just got back from the doc and he says its most likely a sebaceous cyst (just a bump under the skin, essentially) and nothing to worry about. If they get swollen and cause you problems, see your doc and they'll be able to remove them.

Hope this helps! Best of luck to you all.

IT'S NOT HERPES! I have had a few of these during pregnancy and have been tested for herpes. Negative. They are simply blisters that need to come to a head. Mine are painful as it makes it difficult to clean after using the bathroom. Since it is painful, I've called my OB and having it taken care of by her this time. I don't want to wait any longer to get it gone.

I'm so glad this isn't just me.. I've had a couple for as long as I can remember and randomly decided pop it today and immediately it started pouring with blood, I assume because It's an area well supplied with blood. So thankful there's nothing medically wrong with me.

I have noticed (not for the first time) firm lumps at the base of my labia, that are extremely painful but never last more than a week. They are about a third of an inch in diameter and bleed a dark sorta slimy bloody discharge when touched. i am concerned as to what they may be... any ideas

I Have had these off and on for a couple of years my OBGYN sent me to a skin doctor. He said its like a blocked hair folicle the only way to treat it is to surgically remove it. They occur in the same spot all the time on the left of my labia. I will sometimes pluck the hair out of the center of it and squeeze the blood out. They do bother me they hurt when they are full of blood. I am considering the surgery.

Your doctor is not giving you the full story. I had my first one of these blood blisters removed today. A little shot of lidocaine and snip-snip! I didn't even need stitches. Doc told me it is like a varicose vein and to not worry about it. She said she removes them quite often. She said there's no real reason for getting them, but she does see them more frequently in women who've recently had babies - I had a baby a year ago. Hope this helps you!

I had no idea that mine was even a blood blister, because it was a dark blackish-blue color, not a bit red at all.   So I went in to see my Gynecologist, panicked because mine actually looked like some of the pictures of early stage melanoma of the vulva.   My gynecologist thought it was a blood blister, but I insisted it be biopsied, so she did a punch biopsy and sent it off to pathology, only to come back as, yes, a blood blister.  Now I am nursing the punch biopsy wound, but I am glad that I went through that, otherwise I would have always worried that maybe my gynecologist was wrong.

Now as I look back, I know how I got a blood blister there - 6 days before I discovered the bump, I tried a new machine at my local gym similar to an elliptical, but the movement is more of a side to side action, and that must have caused a lot of friction with my underwear rubbing against it for 45 minutes.

I had a massive allergic reaction to some intra-venous antibiotics years ago called Stephen Johnson Syndrome. I ulcerated internally all the way from my mouth to my urethra and vagina. It was so painful my labia swelled and it was too uncomfortable to wear underwear or urinate. I ended up back in hospital with a kidney infection catheter so I didn't have to pass urine. After the recovery I end up with blood blisters on the inside of my labia every month a few days before my period. They last the duration of the period and then disappear. When I first went to the doc they told me I had herpes (i have only ever slept with 1 person - my husband) and refused to accept that so I went back to the gyno who treated me when I was in hospital. He had a look, took a biopsy & told me I had a condition called plasma cell vulvitis. He booked in a surgery and lasered the top layers of affected skin off. It was really good for about a year but after that started coming back, every month a little worse. I'm convinced this is a condition I will have for life but perhaps it will get better when we decide to have kids??

I get friction blisters when I exercise vigorously. I don't shave down there and the hair tends to get long. Last summer I got one and it lasted for 6 months. I tried and tried to get it to go away but it was in such a bad spot that it couldn't heal properly. It would heal up for  a few days and I'd think it was going away and then I'd get sweaty down there and it would pop up all over again. I started seeing someone and he accused me of having an std. It was so humiliating. Finally I ended up getting an antibiotic for something else and it cleared up. Well, I started exercising again about 2 months ago and boom, after 6 months of it being healed, it's back again. In the same spot. I was about 35lbs overweight when I started at the gym. I have about 20 more pounds to lose and now I have this stupid thing. If I keep exercising, it will never heal and if I stop exercising, I'll gain the weight back. I also have a job that requires me to walk around and clean so it never has a chance to get better. I don't know what to do.

Great to have a name for these things now. I'm 66 and never noticed the blood blisters, mostly on the labia major, until 15 years ago. They are not painful or itchy and don't go away. Every once in a while one bleeds and looks like a volcano scab for a while. I once showed my GP and she said it's nothing. I'm too embarrassed to show my dermitologist, but the last time it bled, I worried, so looked online. Now I feel relieved that it's not cancer or something.

That is exactly what I thought, but I went and got tested any way. I do not know what my results are yet, and I am terrified it could be herpes, but seriously, go get it checked out. It is better safe than sorry. It sucks.

I have the same thing. Red blood blisters on my labia. I have had mine now for 13 yrs. They have popped, and bled an uncomfortable amount (enough for panty liner use) but eventually with time and pressure the bleeding stops. Mine were caused by childbirth. I had a difficult delivery and the pressure caused vessels to burst. With every baby I had( I have 3) I would notice one or two more. My OB/GYN told me not to worry, but unfortunately they will not go away.
