Almost 2 years ago, I posted about my horrible labiaplasty experience in the hope that women considering the surgery would think long and hard about the possible outcome.
Here's the update. To this date, I remain in daily discomfort. Both labia,
from the clitoris to the perineum, are tender to touch. On good days, I can only tolerate one type of underwear, which are 100% nylon and have no seams. Nylon underwear is notorious for enabling yeast infections,
so that is an ongoing problem for me.
I haven't worn a pair of jeans in 2 years because the seams are too painful. I can stand some types of slacks if they're loose and very soft, but I wear mostly skirts. Challenging during cold PA winters.
Intercourse is now possible as long as it's very limited. That means we do a lot of foreplay until he's very aroused, then penetration lasts about 2 minutes. For 3-4 days post, I'm slightly swollen and noticeably more tender. Most types of cardio exercise are too painful. I'll never ride a bike again.
Treatment options include the following: more surgery to revise scar lines, which will be more pain and could have the exact same outcome;
steroid injections, which are painful and need to be repeated every 3 months; botox injections, which are very costly and also need to be repeated regularly.
For the last 9 months I've been dealing with widespread aching, joint pain, and skin sensitivity. Eight specialists, including a neurologist, a neurosurgeon, and a rheumatologist from HUP, agree this is fibromyalgia.
My attending rheum thinks it was brought on from the chronic pain of the labiaplasty. I've been out of the workforce for 3 months now. It's an entire new world of depression and misery.
Unless your labia are causing you mental distress to the point of dysfunction, please consider the risks. I still wholeheartedly regret this surgery.

today ...I showed my boyfriend my "cooter" I was terrified he wouldnt love me anymore,once he seen it ! His reaction shocked me !! I thought it was the end of the world,but i was clearly wrong! He laughed and told me there was nothing wrong...i think it was out of sympathy but then i really thought about it and i realized he really does love me ^__^ Im still considering labia plasty,because of the discomfort it causes.But I will definitely keep you and your story/life in mind!!

I heard about possibly using stem cells to help people regrow damaged tissues, bones, arteries, etc. It could be used to regrow amputated labia minora? If it could even, regrow a severed clitoris/labia as well.
P.S.
So far, stem cells (Adult, Embryonic, Bone Marrow, Skin, just to name the source types) are the only way scientists can artificially grow organs and tissues, but if people can regrow their body parts themselves, than surgery and rejection need not be an issue.

i have the same pain though i never had labiaplasty...mine is from an infection....girls, there are three branches of nerves down there, and nerve blocks don't always work....btw, which pain medication are you on?

I went through labiaplasty hell. This operation has ruined my life!!!! Please, write about this issue to Anthony Atala of wake forest regeneratve institute. The more women write about possibilities of regrownth labia minora after trauma , the more interested in research they will have. after many years of total collapse, I began to treat myself the large doses of vitamin b - milgamma+ alanerv + Nivalin injection. 3 times a day lubricates the entire area of olive and preparations for scars plus kitchen foil adhesive. So I go with it almost 24 h - it works! Electrostimulation are used all over the area - the clitoris and vagina - it stimulates the nerves around the vagina. The fact that you do not have labia does not mean that the nerves disappeared. All nerves depart from the labia majora. I encourage all women to what I'm doing. It works. !!! I use also clitoral pump. I use it for 5-10 minutes 2 times a day. After 3 months, I can feel improvement!!! I pray every day for health and ask for a help to God. It also give me a hope.I have panic attacks when I try to meditate. I believe in the power of regeneration and my body. Every day I spend an hour on rehabilitation. Also, I went for acupuncture. All pain is gone now. Acupuncture not only causes an increase endorphins and a decrease of serotonin, but also affects nerve stimulation, a reduction of inflammation and local edema. Because text at the top has an error, I will write again about my treatment.
I have a family doctor who deals with women after breast mastectomy. He told me that using the method of fat grafting for these women recover numbness area and loss of sensation I thought it is a good idea. Rather than inject fat into labia majora I decided to inject fat to labia minora.. Mine was amputeted so it was a fat grafting to scar tissue. But after fat injections, doctor create bump area, so called labia, it looks great. After 4 months whole area start to have sexual sensation. Think about this, I am now far away from being depressed. Every day bring me hope and improvement. Stem calles from your fat can heal your scars. I am pain free now which is so great! I began to start feeling sexual pleasure from the whole area. Even from scar which now look like a small labia minora. Small but they are there! The whole area began to have sensation. This is long term treatment but it works. Trust me.

It would be really helpful if posters who have had these hideous botched operations gave the names of the doctors or clinics where they took place.
I don't know if this can be done legally but there may be a way of suggesting who the surgeons were so others can avoid them.
It may also be useful too if those women who had successful operations were to write where these took place.
