I had labiaplasty via the trimming method 1/29/07. I still have marked
tenderness of the labia, insane sensitivity of the area around the clitoris,
and I swell noticeably by the end of the day. Wearing underwear is uncomfortable; wearing jeans or pants is downright painful. Walking is difficult because it irritates the area. My surgeon says he and his colleague have never seen this before and doesn't know what to tell me except to wait and try to be patient.
Although this is clearly not the usual experience, is it still normal? Every-
thing online says you should be completely recovered in a couple weeks.
Could this discomfort be permanent? Are there any options for me if it
is?
Has ANYone else out there had a less than optimal recovery after this surgery???

i had the surgery about 5 days ago and i have no less pain today than i did the day after surgery. i have also read about women who's experiences were way less painful than mine and no one ever gave me any indication that the pain would keep me out of school for this long. it sucks even more that im starting to think that im going to be in pain for a lot longer and i wish someone with a medical degree would tell me something other that "well its not infected"...

I had this surgery 20 years ago, when it was quite new and the surgeon who did it cut them totally off - which I have regretted to this day. I was better off before and there is some scarring and pain to this day.
How have you healed now. I am sure the surgeons today are more experienced in this field.

I`m in my thirties and I`d been very uncomfortable for a number of years with enlarged labia.I told my Dr and was led to believe it was such an easy operation to get over.Not.I had surgery & it all went wrong, stitches came apart on both labia and has healed with a torn look. The labia are very different shapes but the pain I still have is awful,it goes thro my vagina, bottom and goes down into my leg.The op was 6 months ago.Havin done some research it seems that its a common operation now with all ages.If you have large labia and it doesn`t bother you too much then leave it alone and remember that no two bodies are alike,we`re all unique. If you feel that there is no alternative then be prepared, the procedure is 100 times worse than you`re led to believe and do your homework well, make sure you have total faith in your surgeon.

Hey Cassafras,
How are you recovering right now? Has all the discomfort gone away since your last post? And did you ever learn why there was discomfort for so long? I am experiencing the same thing 3 months post op.

There was a similar post, the title of which appropriately describes your problems, Labiaplasty Nightmare, see:-
https://www.steadyhealth.com/topics/labiaplasty-nightmare&hpr=Labiaplasty_Nightmare
It is a shame that you did not look here before being butchered as the first post was on 03/06/07.
I can only suggest that all those with labiaplasty problems write to as many women's magazines as possible and spread the word about the "Labiaplasty Nightmare", and maybe then one of them will write an article about it to publicise these problems.
I note that about a year ago there were statements in the American press that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists did not really sanction such operations. A search at their website revealed "No pages were found containing labiaplasty". That seems strange when there are so many adverts in the in magazines for labiaplasty. Consequently, I suggest that any Americans among you write a letter to them as well, they should investigate these problems.

Hi,
I have an enlarged inner labia, and it is very hampering. I feel like it's always in the way, if I don't have it positioned a certain way it's uncomfortable all day long. But after reading all of your stories I have decided that I will not have this prodedure done, and will just live with the englared inner labia. My question is, have any of you had sex while you still had the enlarged inner labia? I am a virgin and am wondering if when I have sex it will get in the way. I know it has to be moved and held out of the way in order to access the vagina. I am just worried about awkward moments during sex. Please help me out here!

Hey scubagirl,
I'm twenty and although i recently had a labia reduction, i had previously had sex many times with a large labia. To be completely honest, I've talked about it with two different boyfriends that I've had and both of them have said that they liked it and thought it was sexy. When it comes to guys, many have similar concerns with their own body parts (and most are just happy to be having sex with you to begin with, and dont even consider things like that!)
As for the actual sex, just take your middle and index fingers on one hand (like youre making a peace sign) and separate the labia apart. This gives him easy access and it looks sexy.
Now, this advice may come across as hypocritical since I just had a labiaplasty procedure done last week. But, It is a personal deision that every woman should make for themselves. although I had good sexual experiences with a larger labia, I'm pretty athletic and i was unhappy with the way it would pinch and rub when i excercised. I should also tell you that I had a good experience with the surgery, and today I am happy with the result.
I think that you shold not rely to heavily on what is posted on these boards because in most cases, it is the 'extreme' situations that get written about, while most satisfied patients do not bother to return to the board and discuss their successes. At the same time, if you are still considering this, do your research, go to a clinic that is well know for this procedure and ask tons of questions before hand so you know what you are getting into!

Hi I recently had labiaplasty in America, I used a doctor who is very reputable. I am on week 9 of recovery and still cannot really touch the area due to extreme sensitivity and pain. I am hoping that in time this will pass but who knows.
For anyone reading this Leave your Labia alone!! I wanted the surgery for 10 years! I am now 35 and managed to get the courage together to go through with it. I wish I never had. Every time I move I can feel my labia. They are sore and I could not even contemplate having sex or wearing jeans or trousers. I have to cut a big hole out of the front of my tights as I cannot bear them rubbing against me, it feels like sandpaper. I can only wear certain knickers.
Leave your Labia alone!!! They are beautiful. Please do not do this. Go to counselling or anything else that does not involve going under the knife but be happy with the labia you have and enjoy them.
