i broke my 5th metatarsal about 7 months ago, and now there is a rather large, hard bump just above where i broke it. when i saw the doctor they initially thought it was an avulsion but after i explained what happened (i was kicked in the foot really hard) they said it could be due to that, so im not sure what exactly happened. the break was all the way through the bone. i was non weight bearing for 2 weeks then walking boot for 6 weeks. after that i was instructed to stay out of physical activities. i didnt listen and played basketball almost daily. i was wondering if this bump is a problem and was caused by me playing basketball or if it is normal after a break.

Thanks,
Melissa

Hi there,

You have to understand that metatarsal break is not a simple one and it needs time to heal. The interesting thing here is that your injury was seven months ago and your lump just appeared now. I think that you need to see your doctor and do a scan of your foot again in order to see if you don’t have another injury in the same location. How long has your recovery process last? Can you tell me more about the therapy that your doctor gave you? Do you have any pain in your foot when you walk? I hope this was helpful in any way.

All the best,

Danella
