Hi everyone! I’m sure glad I found this site. It has really helped me through some tough times. It has been 8 months since my surgery . I’m an active 51 year old teacher. My accident happened last December 27th. The last ski run of the day. All I remember is falling backwards and thinking that I was going to blow my left knee. I consciously twisted my foot out of my binding successfully but it immediately felt “hot”. I played hockey the night before and had bruised the ribs on my left side. I couldn’t do my left ski boot up as tight as it normally is. Consequently, my foot had to twist far beyond its capacity! I had the ski back on before my wife arrived and skied the rest of the way down. I was a ski instructor for many years and rarely fell. An inconsequential fact at this point. I knew something was seriously wrong so I immediately took ibuprofen and iced it at home . Called my doctor the next day to get an x ray. He read it that afternoon and was able to pick up the lisfranc injury on some new computer enhanced equipment. He wanted me in the next town for surgery the next morning. I think getting an early start to my recovery really has helped. The OS used 2 screws; one for the dislocated 1st metatarsal and the other for the fractured 2nd . I also fractured the 3rd and 4th but they didn’t need fixation. Four weeks non-weight bearing and 3 months in the boot. Since it was my left foot I couldn’t drive either of our standard vehicles. Off work from Christmas until after March break. It was great getting into the pool at 8 weeks, no kick, and on a bike eventually. But what a ski season to miss! Over 600 cm, 20 feet of base at our local hill. The best ever! I started PT at 4 weeks and she has been great. At 6 months I started walk / running with the guidance of my PT but I never felt comfortable. I thought I would wait until after my screws came out. My OS took them out yesterday and my foot no longer feels like a piece of wood. I’ll keep everyone informed about my full recovery as intend to play hockey, ski and run again. Cheers!
