I also have not been successful with getting off of Cymbalta. I just thought I would have to stay on it for the rest of my life.

you don't know what you are talking about. When I was givenCymbalta 6 yrs ago, no one told me how difficult it would be to stop taking it. I have stopped other antidepressant before and nothing ever put me through hell like cymbalta. If I had known,I never would have taken it at all. The side effect when trying to stop this drug are shocking and frightening!

madashellcgc Please don't pay attention to srives1.. clearly this person has no clue. About trying to get off these addictive poisons, as you already know, very very difficult. Consider yourself fortunate as a family member of mine died...And was never warned about the consequences. His doctor put him on several ssris without sharing the horrendous truth. I have dedicated my life to helping warn people about these insidious drugs.  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

Try looking for an alternative drug doctor to help you wean off. Unfortunately most of these doctors are off the grid because of persecution but they are out there. Do some Google searches and good luck. Never, ever stop these drugs suddenly as they can trigger and exacerbate your problem. Dr. Peter Breggin has many books on the topic. Good luck.

:-) I agree same thing has happened to me. It said it was non narcotic, I didn't expect the traumatic withdrawl symptoms. Like my leg swelling up with vains popping out, crying fits, and convulsions. It felt like I needed a fix and in fact had to take more of that non narcotic drug to feel well. I can't stop taking it plus I know know it doesn't help my chronic liver disease as I have a fifty percent chance of dieing as of 2013. I am 56.

Way out of line on comment, I am not depressed and was prescribed cymbalta for pain control after cancer and chemo, this drug not only made me want to do myself in, broke out it blisters, now scars and made me violently ill. Sue the drug companies, you have no idea the experiments they are doing on the general public and how they get away with it by paying lawmakers to overlook their transgressions. Maybe you should try praying to God for compassion and understanding and knowledge of what a good hearted person is supposed to be so you can get busy failing at being one.

Yeah...well tell that to my family because I just lost my liver to this drug. Nobody told me that I would lose my liver or not be able to come off of it without potentially seizing up and dying. I wouldn't pray to your God unless it could give me my liver back and attempt to make right what is wrong with the system. How dare you FOX news types throw your ignorance in my face! How dare you presume that ignorance and naive religious would persuade anyone from making right what is wrong. FU

srives works for a pharmaceutical company or is otherwise not very empathetic. I lost a family member due to Cymbalta. My heart goes out to all of the victims.

First of all, you take anti-depressants for a reason, they are made to help you. You, yourself, knew the risk when you started taking it, all medications are addictive and all antideppressants have side effects when coming off. You people who want law suits are doing nothing but costing this country money, Insurance cost increase for families, and cost increase for pharmaceutical companies to fight people like you. Obviously you need something stronger than Cymbalta, maybe you should trying praying to God and asking for the strength to get off by yourself. Only God can help anyone who asks. Suing the company will not do anything and you are WRONG for even suggesting it.

No you arent wrong for suggesting suing Eli Lilly! Cymbalta put me in the ER 3 times and could've easily put me in the hospital. Cymbalta is a DANGEROUS drug and needs to be stopped

Paroxetine, prozac, paxil, cymbalta, effexor, they all have the brain shiver withdrawal, what can you do? i mean we are all crzy got to take something i want to know where i and how i can get lily to help me pay for my medicatio or send me some of it this med is expensive

Actually Paxil and Prozac do not cause brain zaps because they are a totally different class of drugs. Cymbalta on several occasions has actually cut off a persons ability to feel pain

The drug didnt even make it thru the FDA testing. 4 people commited suicide on the withdrawal study and the rest quit after that happened. The drug should NOT be on the market

I will say a prayer right now for you since you are so heartless, judgmental, and ignorant! I hope you are never in the situation of coming off a drug that is so evil. By the way the information provided with the drug via this drug manufacturer never states the side effects of coming off this drug, hence I would NEVER have started it in the first place!

How bad was your liver damage? Is it ongoing? Were you taking meds for migraines @ the time, by any chance?Don't mean to pepper you with all these questions. just trying to compare it to my own experience.

Thanks.

My with drawls were severe, i had a seizure, extreme liver damage, now i have a spot on my brain that is not right. i was always hot, severe headaches, i even heard that it could cause problems with your heart. Still going thru with drawls, went cold turkey, ended up having a seizure, my doc took me off cold turkey, and i felt like i was going to die, wished i would go to sleep and not wake up.
I had a heart attack, then a few days after the doc took me off cold turkey, my heart was racing, chest pains, hot flashes, severe head aches, I wish that i had been weaned off. i went to the fire station, and my blood pressure was extremely high so i ended up in the hospital again for 5 days. Its a horrible drug to get off.

Here is documentation of the dirty little secret between LILLY and FDA. Half of the United State Baby Boomer population has liver damage or undiagnosed hepatitus that doesn't show up on lab tests so Dr.s ignore the problem and patients don't know they have it. I swear they are trying to kill of the older drug consuming public and I am sure they are pumping this c**p out to vets like candy with their physical and emotional injuries. Its an easy way to get kill off a loud screwed over (as usual) vet population. Don't believe me...they think I have paranoid tendancies now that I coming off the drug and in complete misery with liver failure, heart failure, and probably brain damage.

I was put on cymbalta because it not only was supposed to help my depression but also my back pain. Instead after only a couple of months, cymbalta brought on symptons as if I have rheumatoid arthritis. I have horrible stiffness coming on in the evenings in my hands legs and hip joints. I get horrible pains going through my hands, ankles, hips, elbows and back. I have never had such debilitating symptons. Before taking cymbalta, I had osteoarthritis and had only a little pain, now and then. Now I have nothing to look forward to especially as the day goes into the evening as this is when the worse pains begin. I hate I ever took this drug and believe it should not be on the market. No one needs a drug to bring on rheumatoid arthritis or to mimick it. I have turned in my adverse reactions to my doctor and to the F.D.A.

I have been on most SSRI's and SNRI's none have had the horrible effects of withdrawal as Cymbalta. This medicine in the medical field is still considered new. Meaning I am sure they are not really sure of the long term effects. Who knows if it got proper testing before release. No SSRI or SNRI has ever made me feel like what I would imagine coming off drugs would feel like. I was a 14 year smoker, quitting Cigarettes cold turkey was more tolerable than this. Brain Zaps, Dizziness, Fast mood switching, very emotional (doesn't take much to make me upset and cry), Fatigue and other symptoms. I am on Wellbutrin which is to replace the Cymbalta since it is a tried and established medicine. To srives1, either you work for these companies or have no clue of psychiatry and SSRI/SSNRI's. These people including me aren't quitting it to just quit it. I also got weened off of it. Let's not go into the try a higher dose to be effective or a stronger medicine. The issue is this medicine has a widespread known problem with heavy withdrawl which sadly most patients are not told. All a higher dose of cymbalta ever did was give me a dead sex drive, emotionally cold, gastro issues and headaches. Every person has different experiences It has nothing to do with needing a stronger medicine. Don't make Pharma to be the victim, which gets plenty of money via the government, doctors and patients. when they are done and go Generic with 1 medicine they alter it and put it out as brand new to make more $ so please spare me with the lawsuits are hurting the country. To those that are currently or may go through this in the future don't be afraid, have a support system of family or friends. Read up on what can dampen the effects I hear Omega 3 fish oil helps the Brain Zaps. I am glad I found this because now I feel like I am not alone in this.

As bad as it is for you and I know it is, it could have been worse. My son-in-law yielded to one of the known side effects, suicidality. He had it for months and kept telling his doctor and my daughter about it. The doctor kept changing the dose and added Abilify along with the Cymbalta. He had the zaps, crying jags, stomach problems and was tortured by this medication before he ended it all. We are still crying every day for our loss. My grandkids are now 10 and 12 and will be forever denied a great father because Eli Lilly finds it more important to make a lot of money from Cymbalta and other killer drugs.  ***this post is edited by
