In my case the leakage lasted 5 weeks. Provided laxative were not helping so I was taking 6 senna tablets per day. During all this time feces were leaking, so I worked from home. Similar to another poster, after BM, when the pain was making me scream and it feels muscular rather than wound -like, I found out that pointing hot water jet from the shower onto the bottom and scrotum was revealing it. The brochure provided by the hospital said I could return to work after one week, and there was not mentioning of any leakage - what a joke. This site was of real help. Good luck everyone!

My surgery was 11/04/16. I'm still leaking , itchy, burning and blood in stool. Had abscess that she drained during initial surgery . But I still have incisions that did not heal . The doctor prescribed me a cream which is supposed to relax the muscle so that it could heal . lol doesn't work and wasn't cheap. Now I believe I have another abscess . I feel worse than I did when I first came in . Not to mention depression and inability to feel sexy with a wet bum. So I feel your pain!

Hi ,
To all I feel your post hemorriodectomy. Dave from the UK. I'm post op 12 weeks. This operation takes up-to 6 months to fully heal. There are some rules I would love share with all who experience this operation. Tips I guess to help. That really has worked.

1/ Ask the hospital for instillagel. Local anesthetic in a syringe. Prior bowel movement. Post movement for two weeks post op.
2/ Have a shallow bath. Add a little salt to the bat water, bathe Straight after BM. As your muscles down there are relaxed. Soak 20 minutes.
3/Use Fibrogel, sachets 2-3 a day. These are a god send. Bran sachet . They help to keep your BM formed but soft. Not runny. Which will cause more prone to infection if your BM are liquid. After week 6-8. Drop down to 1 sachet per day. Drink at least 3 pints of water through the day.
4/ You will experience a yellow discharge. Some poop leakage too. Don't be alarmed. Your muscles have been opened to extreme. Lol. Anyway. When you feel this leakage. You must try to clean up straight away. Little water, soap etc..
5/ So take a dip in a warm/hot bath for 20 mins after BM. Plus have another bath at night before bed. All this helps with healing the area.
6/ I get all the degrading leakage, one thing I forgot to mention. If your a man. Be glad of lady monthly pads. There another god send. Helps to suppress the leakage. Change 2-4 tines a day. Happy days. the pain is hard mentally, physically drains you in and out the tub. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Use the items, make a list. You won't go far wrong.
7/ Don't sit on your butt for any long periods for the first 8 weeks. Try an walk when you can, not to much. Little by little. This operation will take up-to 6 months. Due too the area. It's a roller coaster of 1 step forward. Two steps back. Blood, tears, anxiety, frustration. But listen. Use the things above with a good diet. Bingo you will come through this. It's a long one. Good luck to all. Feeling your pain and discomfort. Dave. England. UK.

I am exactly one week from complete hysterectomy with rectal and bladder prolapse repair and external hemorrhoid removal. The hemorrhoid recovery is the only thing bothering me. It is just as others have said... constant seepage of small amounts of poop and so much time spent trying to clean up after not only seven vowel movements today, but seepage when I pass gas! It is just the worst! None of the doctors who respond ever mention the poop seepage! My boyfriend installed a portable bidet on our toilet, bought a squatting potty to attach to toilet with seven inch rise under feet to floor. The nurse told me knees need to be above waist when using bathroom to get a full movement. I also have ordered a sitz bath. I just added gauze on my anal area along with Aquaphor to ease the irritation, and if ciurse pads. I just want to hear from anyone if if ever gets better!! Not one message says if it improves over time!

I am one year post op and fistula repair. I still have bowel leakage after using the bathroom. Either it's liquid form or it's blood
Does anyone know if this will go away?

If you are always wet you can get jock itch which is the last thing you need. Try using cornstarch on dry, clean skin, putting it all over the area that gets wet.

My husband had hemorrhoid surgery 4 months ago and has hurt ever since because of fecal leakage. We are not through finding an answer that allows him to get his life back. What we are trying now is Tucks medicated cooling pads both to wipe with and also to place on the sore area, kegel-like exercises which is tightening the anus for 5 seconds, then relaxing, tightening and relaxing 50 times a day, and Metamucil to firm up his BMs. Good luck to you, as this is a very trying thing to live with as it changes your whole life. We were not told before surgery that this could be a possibility. It sucks!

Hey everyone. Found this post looking for answers about others' experiences with the leakage. I'm 44 and had surgery exactly 6 weeks today... And I'm still leaking. My surgery involved one inscision for a bid "roid" and the burning with laser of two laser for two more. The pain was bearable after surgery and thank God did not experience any of those horror stories told by others at the moment of defecation (I did take Percocets every 4-6 hours for the five days and always took a sh** squatting)... the leakage.... it won't stop... so annoying. I have to wear butt pads twice a day.
I will keep everyone posted about this progress for others.
