For days now I have been getting off and on strange feelings, numbness and tingling on the left side of my body, it starts from my head down to my toe, and the sensation is quite scary and hard to describe, my head especially feels really weird like something is off while my left body goes completely numb and tingly

I have to sleep it off because it gets really bad to the point where I can't take it, when it happens, I can't move, it makes me really sick and unable to move completely

I am taking thyroid medicine for hyperthyroidism and I am 24 years old, I am not sure if the medicine has something to do with this, or if its something extremely serious

PLEASE HELP ME

Hi Hon: I just checked out side effects for hyperthyroidism medicine, one of them is numbess and headache and nausea. BUT I don't think it would be too this extrememe.

It could be a pinched nerve in your neck, something vascular etc. So the 1st thing to do is get checked out by a doctor ASAP!!!! And then have him/her to a neurological test on you. You really do need to have this checked out hon. There are SO many reasons for numbness and dizziness!

Let me know what is happening OK, and if it gets too much have someone take you straight to the hospital. Don't brush this off OK? Good luck and health!

thanks for replying to me so quickly sweetie, I don't have a headache, but I have this weird sensation in my head and then it goes down my body and it makes my entire left side go numb, it's almost impossible to tolerate and very scary to say at the least, I am going through mono and possible bronchitis as well, so I don't know if it's related to that and I am having complications from it or it's a highly different underlying case, it's scaring me pretty bad because the sensation, numbness and tingling is very intense to the point of making me feel sicker than I already am

I got a doctor's appointment tuesday, and I am gonna be sure to mention it to her and get tests done cause I am really worried about it, even my fiance said that it seems serious cause it doesn't just happen to happen, there's a reason behind it

he also thinks it may be the thyroid medicine, course it should never cause something to that extreme, so I am wondering if its something else, I just don't know, I am scared and worried, I don't want it to be something involving my brain or something, :-(

if it gets any worse to the point where I can't take it anymore, I am gonna have my parents take me to the ER, I will get this all checked out as soon as I can, starting with my appointment on Tuesday, I'll keep you updated sweetie and thank you for the care and concern :-)

Your welcome honey, just know that there are hundreds of things that it can be, I am usually the 1st to say start at them bottom then work to the top. But when it comes to nausea and numbness it is impossible to tell. I know that with hyperthyroidism, there can be problems and it can take AGES for the medications to work! Like I said, IF it is like it was where you feel like you can't move. YOU HAVE to go to the hospital, Tuesday is a LONG way away, especially when you are either waiting to find out what is wrong with your, OR waiting to see if your pregnant ;-) Keep me updated, and good luck hon!

I know, I have been trying to do alot of research and see if I can get a little bit of a idea of what could it be but I am having a hard time coming up with answers, the only time the nausea happens is when it gets really intense, regular nausea I get from the mono and bronchitis, but the extreme nausea where I feel really sick is when the weird sensation, numbness and tingling happens, I first started noticing it this past Monday, I had been taking my new thyroid medicine for a week now, and it didn't really do it then, so I am not sure if it's the medicine now or not or something else

I know hyperthyroidism is a difficult thing to control, especially with medicine when it takes ages to work and you have thyroid storms to worry about, I hate that I got diagnosed with it, it's like: come on, I am going through enough, do you have to pile that on the list as well? Its so frustrating, dealing with stuff one right after another without any breaks in between, it just sucks :-(

I will definitely get to the hospital if it gets any worse, right now I am going through one, it feels really weird, my mom pinched my arm and I didn't even feel it, the sensation is insane in my head and my left body is completely numb, its been going on for 20 minutes now, and its starting to make me sick

Ill keep you updated, and thank you so very much!

Well bamby is right, you need to go and check your self with a doctor. But I also think that waiting that long to go is not good. If you are experiencing one right now, that maybe you should pack yourself and got o IR and see if they can help you. You have a nice list of complications with your body, and it is not easy to bear all this. But you have to be strong, and you'll see you will be ok. Keep us posted on your condition.

I went to the doctor today for my follow up with my thyroid doctor and to do another thyroid test to see how my hyperthyroidism is doing. She mentioned how low my thyroid levels were, she said they were VERY low, and she also said she couldn't believe I had a hard time with the first medicine, and she went on telling me that this medicine I am taking is less effective than the other which made me super sick, and this one and that one are the only ones that can be taken for hyperthyroidism

anyways she started to feel my neck around on the sides and where my thyroid is, and she got concerned, she wanted to order me a thyroid ultrasound/scan to make sure I didn't have any masses, goiters or anything else serious going on, she sounded EXTREMELY worried, and I told her I hadn't been able to swallow that good and felt like my throat was swollen, she nodded and said that was another reason she wanted to do this test, because my thyroid is swollen and so is my neck, and if there is any masses, goiters or anything like that, they need to be found very quick.

she said for now to keep taking my thyroid medicine as I am supposed to, and I would get a call to be told when that test is gonna be done, she said we are taking steps at a time, one thing at a time, she sounded very worried

and she said I had the symptoms for mono, SO..I got another mono test done to see if I have mono now, which I am sure I do, and another thyroid test to see how the levels are right now, she said they might need to up my dose if it isn't helping

everything sounded so freaking serious and I am so scared right now because I don't want them to find a mass, a goiter or anything like that, cause that's dangerous and there's a possibility that if there IS a mass, it could be cancerous :-(

so..I am worried sick right now, it seems like things just go from bad to worse :-(

I am kinda..like..stunned right now, looking up information about thyroid masses, getting educated on what I COULD be dealing with if thats the case

just keep your fingers crossed for me guys and please pray for me, I need everyones support and prayers, this is a serious serious time. I need you guys

thank you again for all your support, care, prayers and concern, it means so much! I will keep you all updated on the health situation

Hi Hon: Whatever you do DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT research the "mass" You can TOTALLY frighten yourself so much that you can talk yourelf out of a lesser diagnosis. I totally disagree with websites where you can diagnose yourself and have hyperchondriacs saying things that aren't true! When my youngest son was diagnosed with EDS I went on the website and when I was finished I was Hyperventilating!!! There are people on there that were saying things that aren't even possible. So PLEASE DON'T Do That OK?

Now, Goiters are from problems with your thyroid, it is NOT cancerous by any means. And they grow and shrink with different meds. I have found a couple of good websites about Goiters and treatment they are below:

http://www.endocrineweb.com/goiter.html

http://www.netwellness.org/healthtopics/thyroid/thyroidgoiter.cfm

Also did you know that I can even find you sites that will compare prices for you to buy a Goiter!!!!!!!!!!!!? ;-) XD :-D o.O

That is what I am talking about with some of these sites! Mono is a biggy with making you feel yucky!!!

I TOTALLY get you are woried and freaking out, and it is understandable. Especially when there are the raised eyebrows on your doctors face, or the "perhaps, maybe, couldbe, etc" from their mouths. And when you are already worried you can read SO much into facial expressions, the tone of their voice etc. When you do your own research - ESPECIALLY into common illness's - you WILL come out FREAKING out even more.

Just hold tight hon, and do what they say, there IS treatment for this. And everyone that needs to be made aware of your condition HAS been. So TRY not too worry!!! And please don't get enbroiled with online attention getters OK? I get it ALL, and I know me telling you to relax sounds flip, but I TOTALLY understand you freaking out, I TOTALLY get you being worried about the unknown. BUT I also know the otherside that the chances of this being REALLY serious as in the C is VERY VERY low OK? Let me know what is going on OK? Good luck Sweetie!

thanks sweetie for all that information, sometimes I can't help to look this stuff up to sort of give myself education of what I could be up against, I rather know than not know, you know?

I got my results back today, I am once again Mono negative which is good and my thyroid levels are normal, however I did read that in most thyroid cancers, you have normal thyroid levels, so I am still worried

Also I got a paper in the mail that came Wednesday that had to do with my scan that I am getting done next friday, when I was looking at the paper, it said hyperthyroidism and below it, it said something about having a palpable mass in the right side of my neck, now it has me even more worried that apparently I have this mass in my neck, my mom of course didn't tell me anything about the paper, most likely to keep me from getting very worried until I get the scan done to see what I am up against

does a palpable mass in my neck mean that it could be a tumor or cancerous?

I am very scared as everything seems to be getting worse, my neck is very tender, hurting, my jaw hurts, my ears hurt, and my head is hurting, I am feeling more and more tired as the days go by, and the bones in my chest and right arm is very painful

what am I up against? Should I be very worried now that this might be cancerous?

I need help :-(

A palbable mass just means that they can see it and feel it. As compared too a mass that can only be detected by ultrasound or xray.

I know that me saying "Don't Worry" Is absolutely ridiculous too you. Like I said earlier hon, you will read every word over and over again. You will look at their faces and try to listen too them talking and IF they are talking about you. I know this is going too be the longest week of your life.

3 years ago I went for my 1st mammogram, the woman came back in and said as blunt as a block "We found something on your Mammogram" I FREAKED out - of course - I had to go too an oncologist, have an ultrasound, have a biopsy etc. And it was just a strange lesion in my breast, and that MANY women get cysts and they don't know why. So I TOTALLY get you being freaked out. Just know that the chances of you having Cancer are 3 - 30% and the 30% is because of other determining factors - age - previous cancers- genetic etc.

IF and I really mean IF it is cancer there is a 97% success rate and that is higher when you are under 40!!! So keep that in mind ok hon!!!! There is a TOTAL greater chance for you that this is a Goiter!! PLEASE don't look at any more sites OK? You can send yourself into total panic mode. These doctors you are seeing will help you and give you ALL the information you need.

From now till the test - also you might not even see anyone next Friday, there just might be the scan and you go home and wait for your doctor too phone you and give you the results - BUT if there is a meeting with a specialist, write down EVERYTHING you need too ask OK? Because if there is someone available to talk too you, you will be so wound up by then you will forget what you wanted too know. Take your mom with you, so she can remember things too. Sometimes you can go into a meeting and you have SO much bad stuff in your head, that when they tell you good things, you wont hear it!!! So just write it all down, and let your mom do it too. I really doubt you will get your answers next week. As a radiologist has to anaylze the information and then do up a report. It usually takes 3 too 5 business days!!!! >:( So be prepared for that OK!?

Poor kid!!! I am sending you out the biggest hug there is and all the love and luck in the world. Have faith that you will come out of this OK? And if you ever need too talk I'm here honey. Fingers, toes and breasts crossed!!!!!!

I had these masses in my neck when I suffered fron Grave's Disease (hyperthyroid). They disappeared as soon as I got my meds right.
I was worried about my nodules (masses) being cancerous also because my grandmother had thyroid cancer. I asked for a neck biopsy on all my nodules. Sounds like a scarry test...but really not that bad and it's worth the peace of mind.
Are you having a fast heart rate with your hyperthyroidism? High Blood Pressure? Most people do experience this with hyper thyroid. That could well be the reason for the funny fealing in your head and the numbness you are experiencing.
If your heart rate or blood pressure gets too far out of hand be sure the ask your doctor about it.
I remember mine getting really wild and I had to take blood pressure medicine and meds to take my heart rate down for a short time. I also had a hard time swollowing food.
Thyroid is tricky...at least in my personal experience. Don't get too paranoid or freak out as you say till you have went through the total thyroid process. There are several test and several treatments you can undergo to help your treatment and make you better.
I know it's hard (I've been there) and the more upset you get the more you body is going to react.
Best of luck to you.

thankyou Karie for giving us your personal experience. That was lovely of you too do. People don't think of the thyroid as a big deal, but it sure is isn't it? Same with the pancreas, you never hear of it and then WHAM!! Kind of like the ugle sister syndromes ;-) XD Both of them are UGLY organs, but such a true necessity. Thanks again even from my side of this. And I'm sure Ash feels the same way~!

No. Not necessarily, and so I don't think that it's worth your time to worry about it. I know that it's been awhile since you've last posted so I'm wondering if you have an update for us? Have you been able to relax since then? I know that your health is precious so it's hard at times to relax, but believe me, there's so many other things this could be that aren't cancer. Let us know how you're doing okay?

I disagree. While all nodules and masses are most likely nothing to be alarmed about I feel they should still be checked to make sure. Not doing so maybe just asking or trouble.

As many of these palpable masses are not indication of tumor or a cancer, an CT scan can show if there is anything to worry.
But if someone is really worried about this I would suggest an appointment with a doctor and see that you get your CT scan.
