Ok so I do know that I have anxiety and panic attacks but I have always these strange feelings... When i was younger i had this dream that i was laying in a bed and it was dark and i was looking through a window at a tree with no leaves and the moon was shining through a four pane window then some one would come up from behind me and strangle me and i would wake up screaming and sweating but throught the dream i had this feeling of heavyness throughout my body and numbness and combined into one my tounge feels swollen and its just the craziest feeling i have ever experienced especially since its the feeling that was in my dream and now its come to haunt me in real life but what im getting at is what is causing this feeling of swollen tounge, numbness, heavyness, and the feeling that all fingers are touching but my hands feel small i really am trying to find the words to describe these feelings but i just cant get it out... oh and here recently my feet will randomly start tingling and going numb while im sitting and my hands do the same at complete randome... i have told my doctor this befor but has never said any thing about either subjects... so if any one has any clues to what may be causing any of this please let me know!

Hi William,

I'm not sure as to the dreams.

The swollen tongue, numbness, heavyness, tingling feet and hands going numb, how long have you had these symptoms? Do they seem to occur when you're having the panic attacks? Do you appear to be breathing normally when they occur? I'm asking because I am wondering if it is related to the "blowing off" of C02 and the tingling that often accompanies panic/anxiety attacks.

I'd also be curious if you been tested for diabetes? You could have a circulatory disorder causing the numbness. Even the tongue feeling could be caused by a circulatory issue.

Note: I'm not your doctor. I'm only giving you some possibilities. You'd need a full work up to identify what is going on here. If your current doctor seems to be ignoring your questions, put them to him point blank. If he/she can't or won't answer, check elsewhere.

Hope it helps.

I think I had a similar situation. It first started when I was in a dream. It would switch between feeling like my own body was crushing me, and feeling light as a feather. It's interesting because my dream would change depending on which state I was in. When I felt light, it was bright and calm, and for some reason I would be holding a delicate flower in my hand. Then the dream would flip. It would be dark, and I always received the impression of twisted, screaming metal. It was always chaotic in those phases.
The dreams would appear over and over again when I was a child. Because of that, I would always be able to tell exactly when it would flip to the darker part of my dream. I can remember the dream in detail because it has happened so often with very little changes to the contents of the dream.

When it happened while I was awake, I was a little older. I would normally be reading a book when I would feel my vision changing. It's like in movies where they zoom in on the subject in the foreground and zoom out on the background. When it settled, everything would feel strangely distant. I would fight it as hard as I could, and it would return to normal. However, if I don't fight it and continue reading, my body would feel heavy again, like I was made of petrified wood and my body would feel strangely dense. It normally happens to me when it is close to nighttime, when my state of consciousness begins to change before I go to sleep. As far as I can remember, it hasn't happened during the day for me.

I don't think there is anything wrong with you, it is literally all in your head. I'm sure you know that the brain is where we process sensation, so it is there that this is occurring. Something is going on up there, but while it is uncomfortable, I don't think you will suffer any damage to your body.
I fight it when it happens by trying to focus on something far away and trying to raise my consciousness to full waking consciousness.

In regards to your dream, it will only mean something to you, that's just how it works. If you can figure out what the dream means to you, you may find the way to stop the sensations from occurring. It worked for me, and I'm working to keep myself in a state where I don't get that heavy feeling. Would you like me to try and interpret your dream? I know it may seem a little strange, but if the sensation occurs as part of the dream, it may be connected in a way.

I hope all that didn't bore you. Good luck!
