My father has been suffering from heart problems fro some time now. He smokes and is over weighted, but it seems that he is not willing to change much. At last, he suffered from heavy chest pain. Doctor told us that he survived a heart attack and was prescribed with liquid morphine with some other meds. Why does he have to take that drug? I don't understand.

Liquid morphine is often used for dealing with heart attack, which is a cardiac condition followed with irreversible damage of heart tissue. Pain is intensive (in the chest area), it can spread to left arm, stomach... And morphine is used for dealing with that pain (analgesic effect). I think that you should persuade your father somehow to stop leading an unhealthy life. Please, you must insist.
