I am 41 years old with two children both born by c-section. I have a lump just below the left side incision point of my caesarian scar. The c-sections were 7 and 5 years ago but I first noticed the lump about 18 months ago. At first it was very small - less than 1 inch in diameter but it has been growing steadily and now is about 4in X 2in, extending towards my hip bone. I think it grows after each period because I can feel it gripping into the cartilage etc. It protrudes now and although I have the typical w shape c-section overhang, the side with the lump is much much more fatty and hangs about 1.5 inches lower.

It hurts a lot on the first 24 hours of menstruation and continues to ache for a week or so afterwards. Sometimes it is a burning sensation. Exercise also triggers the gripping, burning feeling as does trying to massage it or even feel the outline. During the first 24 hours of my period, the pain can be so excruciating that I cannot sleep, painkillers don't even dent it and it makes me vomit. However that's only once every two months and for the last four months I haven't had any agonising days at all.

I am not sure it it is related but I think i may also be peri-menopausal as my menstrual cycle shortened from 33 days to 21 days about six months after i first noticed the lump.

I know I have adhesions elsewhere because a urologist diagnosed some ureter problems resulting from these adhesions which showed up on tests. The urologist was not interested in this lump though (not his part of the body!). The gynaecologist felt it briefly, described it as "like a step" and said it was probably scar tissue, but she did not offer any other advice such as how to cope with it.

I am becoming very overweight and I would like to start exercising but I don't know what is safe to do given the pulling and burning sensation it can cause on the lump.

How can i get this checked out and resolved? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hi Sophie, I think that if you have a lump that is growing steadily like that, I have to wonder why a doctor has not done anything to help you with the symptoms that it apparently causes you. I do not understand why you have not had more help. Have you spoken to another doctor about this so that you can get help? I think you need to push your doctors until you can get some more answers. Is that something you can do? Keep me posted.

Sounds like the exact problem that I have been having! It has been almost 8yrs since my C-Section and I have 2 lumps that have continuously grown over the years. Just like you they become very painful during menstration and continue for about a week after. Just recently the pain has dulled after many years of dealing with this on a monthly basis. I have seeked advice from 2 doctors and neither has given me a straight answer. Its always "it could be scar tissue" or it "could be this or that" never a straight answer. I wish someone could say "this is what it is and this is how I can help you", but so far no luck! Well so far I have just learned to live with it and hopefully will find an answer some day.

I am 25 years old and had my son two years ago by emergency csection. I get this bump on my scar when my period starts and.last a few days after it. It is starting to hurt a lot more now. If I rub my fingers 2 to 3 inches above the scar it feels like little knives going into my skin.

I had my son 5 years ago and a year ago I noticed a lump on my right side of c-section.. I went to two different ob that said it was
scar tissue.. One ob never did ultra-sound or x-ray and said I needed surgery.. A month after the surgery the lump grew back and is larger and the pain is unreal...One doctor said it is endometrois and put me back on bc pills.. It does help with the pain a little.. "I wonder why no ob knows how to cure this.. I have read about so many women having the same problems.. My only advice is do not have the surgery for scar tissue. It makes it worse.

Have any of you seen a surgeon? I had the same thing and it turned out to be a hernia. I wonder if perhaps any of you ladies have one also. Good luck to all.

Hi.
Thank god its not just me. Had my 3rd c section 3 years ago and first noticed the lump pn the left side about 18 months ago. Exact same symptoms. Excruciating pain at period time and also mid month. Also after sex. Mentrual cycle dropped from 29 to 26 days.
Its on the same side that split after my section. I dont know if any other ladies had that kind of thing?

I had the same problem after my 3rd c-section, like you I have been ignored by doctors.  When  my pain was so excruciating that it was hard for me to walk I decided to visited a surgeon and finally after a simple outpatient surgery the painful lump was gone.  She explained to me how much I was covered by those adhesions.  Go a see a general surgeon.  There is no medication that can make the pain away.  I feel awesome after 6 years of my adhesion removal surgery.  I hope this help.
