morphine given too randomly in elderly patients!

My grandmother is 94 and she was given liquid morphine...how do I know if this is the right choice or if I should get a 2nd opinion??  After reading all of these comments I'm confused and scared for her.  She isn't in any pain so why give her morphine? Sometimes she is out of breath but not gasping for air...How do I know what the right thing for her is???

My husband is 78 year's old , he worked for a upholstery business in Bellevue Washington, he had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure but his doctor said his tests were fine, no heart or lung problems that were severe, OHSU did some studies on him and they said his heart was too weak for a heart pump because his accident broke his knee cap and broken toes on the other leg, he could no longer walk, after being released from OHSU he went into hospice 6 weeks ago, from walking to the bathroom , eating food , laughing and smiling, we thought he would beat this, now in less than 3 days since hospice said to give him morphine, in the liquid form, he won't eat or even drink water, I have to give him water and now pureed food threw a straw to keep him hydrated, I so hate hospice it's the hardest any one can go threw, the morphine completely shuts him down.

They can give her a PATCH. Which is applied to her back or chest. Make sure she get liquid through the I.V. Make sure the syringe is going into her belly NOT her lungs (thats what it sounds like to me -- thats probably what they are seeing. If you keep her hydrated she will survive will. She needs a liquid and vitamin I.V) I bet the Docters know that syringe in not in right! they purposely did NOT turn on my mothers SYRINGE. Dehydrating her right in front of me!!!! Because me and my sister had different request she said no I.V - I said give HER THE I.V!!! So, they tried to trick me. But I tell you the Spirit of God moved in my belly (I'm serious) every time I walked pass that I.V. I spoke to the Holy Spirit I said "Whats wrong..." I then stared at the bag, the drops were not moving etc. I went to the frt desk inquired they gave me a very hard time, finally a social worker came in. Immediately I pointed at her (because again the Holy Spirit suddenly allowed me to know this information instantly). I said "WOMEN OF GOD (and I've never did this to anyone before) I said "Is that I.V on" She was frightened (because only the Holy Spirit could have told on her like that) she was scared and said "NO, no its not on" Now you tell me... how would this Social Worker know this from a DISTANCE and she had not in the room prior to this (I was in that room 24-7, I know who entered). IF you give her MORPHINE they will OVERDOSE her (because thats their job) within 3 days. Forgive me BUT its ruthless out here. And many are selling body parts making Billions of dollars. Just being real with you. Also the TUMERIC with help with the inflamation (for pain) also good for tumors, try the liquid form In health food stores in refrigerated section tiny bottle best (fresh) Ask store help as many some really do not know as much as they profess, put it in an eyedropper if needed a few drops at a time. Ask someone at health food store. If you kill the inflamation you take care the root (pain) so the body can rest and heal (seriously) Pray to God "Father God in the name of Jesus, asking for mercy and your healing power to manifest, for your name sake" go head ask ...

Thats what they did to my mom. AGAIN, IF you give her MORPHINE they will OVERDOSE her (because thats their job) within 3 days!!! DONT do it. They are WOLVES inSHEEP clothing. They will tell you to go relax, go shopping. And ask you all kinds of questions because they are planning how to execute their job. MORPHINE is for PAIN. YOU ARE CORRECT. the Doctor told me if she is NOT in pain why are they giving her MORPHINE? I looked up dosages. They tried to convince me it was small BUT I found out what they gave her was what you give someone who has a broken LEG!!!! And she was not in PAIN. Keep her hydrated with a MONITERED I.V the automatic kind with a MACHINE beeping. They play on what you DO NOT KNOW. It is a business separate from the hospital, DO NOT TRUST THEM. PLEASE

SUE THEM, WISH I HAD, I LIVED A HORROR STORY. CLASS ACTION IF YOU CAN HANG IN THERE.. I WILL JOIN IT WITH PROOF. IT IS A BUSINESS!!! AND BUSINESS IS ALL ABOUT CREATING CAPITAL, RIGHT? i feel so bad and sad ,  my father in law passed as soon as the mercey team was sent in ! paseed out n still doing what they do best ,, manage pain .. but  i was not in charge of his medical ..  my mom was on hispice 10 yrs ago in New york ,, no one as much touched her without our approval .. some has to be the voice of our loved ones .. my husband saw this but his mom was in charge ..  so sad to see this asking for food then u get drugs ! i will pray for you all if you can speak for our children and our seniors .. he just turned 77 last month .. to me thats young .. my dad just turned 98 ! in the end i must believe in my faith  . N beleive it is Gods will .. i will pray for peace for all . and thanks for sharing your sorrow .. we all our family amen

I agree, I agree... Tell as many as you can to help as many as you can PLEASE. If anyone wants to a Class Action Suite. I'd agree and do it. This must be stopped!! Instead they gave my mom a DRY AUTOPSY (via her records only) without the body.

YOU CAN order an I.V or else it will be hard for you to keep up hydrating him. Morphine will stiffen him and give all the side effects of shutting down BUT its NOT him, its the DRUG. Take him OFF of it. He WILL snap out of it. Do NOT leave him alone with them. Bring him home with a REGULAR nurse NOT a hospice nurse. BUT KNOW THIS THEY WILL TRY TO KEEP YOU THERE (LIKE A HORROR MOVIE- JUST WARNING YOU) so, trick them as if you will use a hospice nurse THEN CANCELL the HOMe hospice nurse. meanwhile order a regular nurse

Thank You Thank You Thank You - You may have just saved my mothers life.   Last we   ek was a nightmare.  Hospice pushing me to give morphine, they railroaded me into double dose of fentyl patch, had a fit when they saw I had cut in half.  My mother is not in pain says she is not in pain, but they said she "looks" uncomfortable.   Said she must be comfortable to die???  My story is exact same as the others, I have refused the morphine, but have been feeling guilty, worried I am not doing what is best for her, had I not found these stories I fear they would have talked me into "liquid morphine" by the end of the week.   Thank You Again

WTF are you blabbing about ?!!!! Physicians Desk Reference states that morphine is contraindicated" for COPD patients so is "Ativan/Lorazepam" !!!!Only hospice will give it !!!!! Morphine Sulfate

I wonder if my mothers death from acute morphine/lorazapham intoxication was your idea of HOSPICE CARE !! It is a flagrant violation of human rights and patient's rights !!!!! My mother died without DIGNITY!!!! HOSPICE lied to me about the drugs !!!!!!! I had POA over my mom and never would have agreed to MORPHINE AND LORAPHAM !!!!! My mother also had COPD !!!!
Physicians, nurses and hospice workers all have an obligation By LAW to do whatever they can to make patients feel comfortable and safe . Yet they failed to uphold even minimal compliance with the most basic of health care standards

Oh and by the way my mother did not die a PEACEFUL DEATH with DIGNITY she was overdosed on morphine and lorazapham against her will !!!!
