Hello,

I recently went for a colposcapy for the 3rd time, i have moderate dyskariosis (if spelt right) however my cervix is closed and the lady could not do it...

what could be the cause? I am on the depo! I have been on it for about 3 yrs, can this be it?

If when my swab results come back the same or progressed to severe what is done to open cervix to obtain biopsies???

Anyone who has same queries or been there done it thrown t shirt away
Cheers

The Depo might be the part of the reason why your cervix was closed - cervix is normally closed when you are not ovulating or menstruating. And the hormones that Depo injections add to your body in order to prevent the pregnancy stop the ovulation. Do you have any kind of periods now?
And, latest research suggest that, although the screening is still crucial, cases like yours - of mild dyskariosis mean that there are some small changes to uterine cells, but in the majority of cases that changes are not malignant or dangerous.

Hello and thanks for your response.

I am still on the depo and it is due soon but will give it a miss to see if things change... I have had lletz treatment and 2 paps after this which have gone from mild to moderate but it cant be treated or tested with a biopsy because they cant get there to take it...
I cant have any other contraceptive but the depo so what is the answer?

The answer is that your cervix will open even on Depo - you could skip one shot, as you suggested and do the necessary examinations, and than you continue using the Depo as a birth control method. I would suggest that you simply phone your doctor and ask - what should I do: skip the Depo, or wait until the cervix opens.

Following a colposcopy 6 months ago for abnormal smear my cervix is closed. Is surgery really necessary? I'm 66 and had a successful lumpectomy to my right breast earlier this year.
