Hi, my sister is 26 years old and she is planning to stay pregnant. Last week she went to see her doctor and talk to him about her intentions and all things which will happen. During examination her gynecologist told her that her cervix is closed and that such condition may cause complications during pregnancy same as with her efforts to stay pregnant. I would like to know something more about this and what may cause it?

Hi, my friend had similar problem when she was pregnant. She didn't know that she had closed cervix and she knew it when she was pregnant for two months already. Her gynecologist told her that such condition may be caused by cervix trauma or some surgical procedure which was made in inadequate way. Closed cervix may be serous problem as it may cause miscarriage or fertility.

What is the cervix anyway?
The cervix is the opening to the womb. It's located between the vagina and the uterusand plays a crucial role in pregnancy and labor. During pregnancy, it remains closed and the opening is blocked with a mucus plug.

If youve had 3 children you should know that having a closed cervix is not normal,it should be open, because it needs room for the mucus plug,if the cervix is closed, theres nothing keeping it closed so as the foetus develops it will in theory fall out,i.e miscarriage
