If you have chronic pain and are in need of treatment PLEASE be your own ADVOCATE. If you run into a doctor who tells you things you know are untrue or you suspect you are being profiled for drug seeking behavior etc. get up and WALK OUT and find yourself another doctor. It can be very frustrating but please know that NO ONE should be made to live in pain secondary to an ignorant physician or a judgemental or uninformed, uneducated provider of medical care. There are many combinations of pain control. LOOK for an M.D. who is a specialist in Pain Management, interview them like a you are hiring an employee, ask for references.......if he/she gets funky about yout questions and concerns MOVE ON. If you are being told you cannot be treated and there is no reason attached MOVE ON> there is always a solution to pain. The single most important guidline in the assessment of pain is - what does the patient say about their pain. If the patient says he/she is in pain you believe it. Medical care is rooted in the hypocratic oath, do no harm, relieve suffering.

Let's be honest, be careful do not manage your own dose, communicate with your doctor, be honest and diligent and be aware of your patient rights to be treated in a respectful and honest manner. YOU deserve to be out of pain and to be treated with kindness and compassion by your nIurses and doctors.

Weigh the risks and benefits. Procede carefully. But there is NOT ONE REASON ANYONE has to live with pain.

If you are getting hassled by the insurance company and they are indicating that they do not pay for this or that, ask what is on the formulary that can be prescribed. Ask for a "prior authrization form/ medical history form that your doctor can fill out and submit so he can override the usually resistant  and stupid insurance company.

Your doctor decides what you get NOT your insurance company. If you do not have covered benefits that's different, you may have to pay yourself, use generic medication...ask for help ...

Never take "no" for an answer until you have explored your OPTIONS> good luck and be pain fre human"

methadone causes Central sleep apnea, that alone is like going to "Sleep Hell" u drown as u sleep and get little restorive sleep .I have read 66% ofmethadone patients have this disorder, I have had it for 5 YEARS. It has ruined my marriage and finances. Get back on oxys and control them.see a sleep specialist too, it is a matter of life and death with some of the types of sleep apnea. good luck and take care.

miss g.I think when your doc, that know your pain level very well, and has controlled your pain where you can tolerate it. LEAVE EVERYTHING as is. All is well. Besides nobody really knows what you really are feeling (pain). Just saying. I can really relate to all this being a 18 yr vet to painkillers n now on methadone because of a bad car accident that was not my fault. So hang on there and we're all different so do whats best for you.

have you tried a pain specialist. some times they have more knowledge of how to treat chronic pain. I have also been in the same situation to where it's hard to get out of bed.alot of that was also depression. I take cymbalta which helps with pain and depression, also buspar and 30 mgs methadone and 30 mgs of oxycodone and that treatment plan seems to work for me. Good luck to you. Hang in there

Came across this web site and I have an important, possibly lifesaving question for you. I'll try to make it as short as possible. I have been on methadone for 30 years. I have a neck Fusion and a lower spinal Fusion. I live in Dayton, Ohio unfortunately the most publicized opioid epidemic center in the country. I have went from being on four 10mg methadone a day and having a quality of life to 2 10mg a day and a life of agony. I talked to a different pain doctor who wants me to go on 3 15mg of OxyContin a day with Percocet for break thru pain. Obviously part of my pain is withdrawal between doses. I've heard methadone is 3-4x stronger than Vicodin or OxyContin. What should I do? Need guidance PLEASE???
