At the Walnut street theater in Philadelphia, the oldest contuining runnng theater in the states (since 1809).
The play is set in Radnor Township PA in the 1930's, a time when people who lived in RT were basically unaffected by the depression. The people there lived in grand mansions with large staffs.
Most of their money was from large industrial family wealth, mainly raillroad and coal.
Sadly, this part of Radnor is no more. Most of the old estates of been torn down and subdivided because the taxes and upkeep became to high.
The play is loosely based on the Montgomery Scott family which ironically still has the same estate that the movie was based on. Their's is the last remaining grand mansion in Radnor. They also own a great deal of property in the township.
The acting was wonderful. I loved all the references to the various landmarks around Radnor. I knew where they all were or are. I feel they accurately portrayed the life of the very ultra privledged. Money was and still is no object and these people have little concept of real work.
But all people still have the basic need of love, true deep love. That is the point of the whole story. Searching and finding true happiness.
I enjoyed the play mainly for its relevance but in the end, the story had a nice ending.
The sets were massive and extravagant (sp) just like the houses of the old mansions.
Final score 5 out of 6 bullets.
