I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder brought on by a year of illness due to a non-functional gallbladder. By the time the doctors finally pinned down the gallbladder as the offending organ, I had developed anxiety disorder and agoraphobia, accompanied by moderate to sever panic attacks. Panic attacks can cause heart palpitations, dizziness and full-body malaise. I had my share of them for certain.

I have since had my gallbladder removed and am doing much better now, but I still get the sensation of rapid heartrate, flutters and palpitations from time to time, particularly after eating. It could partially still be anxiety related, but it seems much more closely associated with my digestion now. I have researched this and learned that our cardiovasular system can be heavily affected by our digestion. Poor digestion can lead to the same symptoms...oddities in heartrate, dizziness, etc. I had IBS even before my gallbladder gave out on me. Now, that in combination with not having a gallbladder to help with the digestion of fatty rich foods means that things can feel pretty gnarly if I don't eat right. In addition to having digestion problems which lead to stomach and intestinal discomfort, I also get the fluttery rapid heart rate and sometimes dizziness. I can even get these syptoms at random. My heart's been checked out fine and my doctor can't find any other reason for this happening. So the best I can figure is that it's digestive on top of whatever anxiety issues I might still have.
