does effexor help with quitting smoking the way wellbutrin helps?

No, it doesn't. Wellbutrin never really worked for that either, although it was marketed that way. Champex or Champix (goes by different names in Canada than the U.S.) is also marketed this way and is also a mild anti-depressant. It's nonsense really. No antidepressant is going to make you feel like quitting smoking. Not unless you are already committed to quitting on your own. Willpower trumps everything, when it comes to quitting smoking. You have to want to quit. Like really, really want to. The one thing that has actually been proven to work is Psilocybin. The active ingredient in "magic mushrooms". Lol. Seriously, a study showed that it had a really high success rate and when I thought about it, yeah, it made sense. Whenever I took magic mushrooms, I did not feel like smoking did anything for me. It was like I was smoking, just for the sake of smoking, not because I felt I needed to and it seemed like I didn't want to or need to. I need a nicotine fix when straight, but never felt like I did on shrooms. There is a Pharma version of it in pill form.
