Hello! Both of these drugs have the same purpose but work in different ways. Ranitidine is a H2 blocker, which means that it blocks production of histamine that encourages the secretion of stomach acids. Maalox is an antacid and they work by neutralizing stomach acids. You should have spoken to your doctor about combining these two drugs. Usually they can be taken together but it needs to pass at least three hours of each intake. Ranitidine starts working in half an hour to 1,5 hours but lasts really long. It is best to be taken before going to sleep.
