I am 22yo female.

October 2008 i had my second child - (my first was november 2005)

I have been experiencing problems for the past two months.

At least 6 times a week, i experience rapid heart beat - up to 140, even while at rest. This happens even in times of joy or just calm relaxation.

I have experienced anxiety for the first time in my life as well - and have noticed that it only makes the rapid heart beat worse.

Also - there are times where for hours upon hours (lasting 10 hours at the most) I have issues with "getting on top of my breath". Then after i try to get on top of it, i just end up hyperventilating or "over breathing".

I do not have insurance but my husband and i decided that it was time for me to see a physician because it was getting so bad, so i went and had an EKG done, as well as 3 different tests for my thyroid.

All of that was normal.

When the nurse first took my pulse there, it was at 115 after i had been at rest for awhile.

The doctor decided to tell me that it must be anxiety, and i know that there must be something else going on, because the rapid heart beat will just randomly happen - even at calm moments.

sometimes, it feels as though my heart has dropped and i feel it beating all throughout my body.

I am really at a loss, and know that my stress levels have not been ultra high.

I did drink caffeine, but i stopped because of this, and it hasn't seemed to help at all.

Please help me.

(I am not taking any medicine, btw)

Hi Ladyearth: Boy are you talking to the right person!!! :-D You stated about anxiety, and that is a HUGE factor with Arythmia! Rapid heart beat. Even when you are calm, your body can react to events that happened weeks ago. ESPECIALLY when you are a busy mom and don't have time to be worried!!! It always catches up with you. That said it is a very scary thing when it happens. A lot of times these are the reason for the rapid heart beat: Lack of sleep!, Anxiety, hormones (before a period, during pregnancy, pre menopause, menopause and peri menopause), poor diet, and the last (which has already been ruled out) heart disease.

So with a 6 month old, doubt very much you are sleeping a good nights sleep, so there's one! You have already stated about having anxiety - so there's 2. Now what to do about it, sleep whenever you can!! Breathing exercises and keeping a journal and really taking notice of the things happening to you, is another And trying not let things bother you!

When it is happening you can do this, that the paramedic told me! Called the Valsalya manouvre, hold your nose - take a breath, close your mouth and try to blow out the air, gently (without letting any air out), you might hear your ears pop! That should stop it, or you can do a massage - On the right side of your neck - next to your throat. is a main artery called a cortoid artery. If you massage there for a few minutes till the beating goes away, that will help the heart snap back into a normal rythym. Another thing is to put your head between your knees, IF it gets worse, lay down and raise your legs above your heart. Another is a REALLY cold cloth on your head! and the weirdest of them all is to massage your eyeballs around in a anti clockwise way. Also forces coughing can help!

Another thing is this, everyone assumes we have only one aeorta! That is wrong, we have one in our stomachs - thus the reason why people bleed to death when they are shot there - so sometimes you can have an arythymia in your stomachs aeorta! Now that comes right from the mouth of my cardiologist that I went to see about the palpitations. So when we have anxiety the beat is incorrect in out stomach. This is why a lot of stomach issues come from anxiety and upset!

Just know you are DEFINITELY not alone. It TOTALLY sucks! But it is controllable and I have gone from having them everyday to once in awhile - when I'm tired. So you can too. Good luck and good health
