27 maried and 3 kids ... (hit the 3 or 30 rule, so it was time)

Procedure (Friday 9:00) - was very quick 45min car door to car door. The initial 3 local anethetic were very painful and will make you want to punch your doctor in the face (more of a suprise than painful ... just not used to anyone poking at my balls). the no scalpal insition didnt hurt at all right side went fairly well but felt a quick shooting pain when he cut it that traveled into my leg slightly (not to bad) tied and saudered and on to the left freezing had worn off on the left side and felt him pulling the left tube out very painful (but tolerable) he then used some more local on the area ... didnt feel anything else... no stiches.

Day 0 (Friday) - freezing wore off for me by the time i got to the car (glad the wife drove) spent the rest of the day on the PS3 icing for 1/2 hour every 1-2 hours. (like everyone says the ice definatly does wonders) took motrin (doctor didnt mention or prescribe anything but definatly needed) and traded in the boxers for some tighty whities ... did lose about a tsp-tbsp of blood into the gause

Day 1 (Saturday) - KICKED SQUARE IN THE BALLS fealing all day... continued icing and motrin. (the key is to guilt the wife into fetching everythin ;)) little bit of blood in the moring aired it out for awhile which helped get everything sealed up nice ... didnt get much sleep kept thinking about weather or not i will still have movement in my balls .... you do!

Day 2 (Sunday) - Felt great in the morning and put on boxers and started carrying the kids around as per usual... shouldnt have done so much and was experiancing a lot of aching ...back to ice, motrin and the tight ones... (take it easy even if you feal great) showered no problems...

Day 3 (Monday) - lots of aching all day... Back at work (office job ... should have avoided the stress for another day ... storming around puttin out fires was not the right thing)... continued on the motrin all day and iced in evening.

Day 4 (Tuesday) - lots of aching all day (less than day 4) ... went to work and took it easy.... motrin all day and ice in evening.

Day 5 (Wednesday and today) - pain back up to day 3 ... went to work motrin all day and ice in evening.

still a fair amount of pain but no bruising... hoping to test the junk out again soon :P

Notes to a post op:
- ice as much as possible
- motrin or pin killer (i would opt for motrin cuz it is beter for inflamation ;))
- tighty whities ... i know i always think of my grand parents too :P
- after day 2 boxers to sleep in ... you will naturaly find a good sleeping position so dont worry ... you dont want to sufficate the poor guys

Couple of things ive found from reading all of these and talking to freinds is:
1. pain or aching will be present for the first 1-3 weeks is typical situations despite doctors and health information all telling you 2-3days which is bull ... (hoped it would be better by day 5 but well see)
2. check out this website i found prior to lots of info on what could happen and the chances ***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed ... the average person is not perfect like the doctors assume.
3. alot of questions about what happens to the sperm in the ball sack ... well from what ive found they will be reabsorbed in the sack just like when you get in a fight with the wife lol

hoped to help ... oh yeah definatly worth it so far (way better than dealing with 3 kids and a healing wife imo)

(poster from above continued)

Day 6 (Thursday) - still ached most of the day ... after work i was chasing around the kids in the kitchen and the aching semmed to suddenly decrease significantly... felt pretty good ... after kids were in bed i tested things out some sharp pain during ejaculation but nothing to bad and very glad to say i had full normal sensations aswell (which i think we all worry about :-P) ... this release also took care of the remaining "blue balls" aching sensation... and now only had a very slight localized aching (not the entire area like b4)

Day 7 (Friday) - Pretty good all day and now it feels normal with the occational localized ache when moving around... doctor set up a checkup for tueday aswell so that nice to know they do check up you lol ... might even try out the boxers again tomorow... wish me luck!

Probably wont post any more about this since im pretty much better now (if anything persists ill likely come back to provide any additonal information)

Thanks for reading ....oh yeah and post vasectome no condom intercourse (after the seamen check) FTW!!! :-D

oh and does anyone know what you call the seamen without the sperm? ... seafood :-P lol love that one!

so im back to tell some more left off at day 7 above...

Day 8-10 - aching still and pain at the base of the penis during arousal and ejactulation (apperently normal... my balls would do that but now its just the severed tube the pain is from the tube not being completely healed yet ... according to the doctor)

Day 11 (Tuesday) -had my doctors apointment and he advised me that the result were back and that one of the vas tubes was not disconnected (they test the cut tubes to ensure the doctor cuts the right thing ... at least they check) one of the samples came back as a fat material and not a vas tube .... so im a statistic (what ive researched a 1/2500 chance of reconect or failure and my doctor has done over 1000 of these and this was his first failed attemped)

oh and when he started to tell me i was tinking of the worst like i had test cancer or some sh*t so after i found out it wasnt to sad lol...

so now that this has happened the wife is thinking maybe its a sign (how do i argue with that?) so probably wont get the job done again for another couple of years to make sure she is satisfied we are done ... doctor informed me he will now redirect me to a urologist who would complete the procedure likely a full scaple ill meet with him initialy to make sure they dont need to do anything now(wouldnt think so).

so my outlook with my luck is triplet girls a full scalpel surgery with a long recovery and probably grapefruit sized sack (1/1000 chance) lmao.

work is picking up again so my window of oportunity is gone for at least anouther year (damit i had the wife convinced and everything)

so sh*t does happen fingers crossed for all those getting it ... but dispite all of this i will likely still get this done again to make sure still a much beter procedure than for the women.

couple of things to note:
1. the shoting pain about 3in into the leg im assuming is not normal (that was the side that was not disconnected) i regret not saying anything more than "i felt that" ... definatly say sometin if it happens to you!
2. idk but i can no longer move my left ball by clenching but can with the right (which was the fail) might be an early sign i thought that was weird but am not sure if you should have movement in the balls after.

hopefuly no more bad news....

I'm 5 days post op.  The surgery was the most painful event I've ever been through.  I wasn't expecting pain because everyone else sain minor discomfort.  After the surgery, I've had a little discomfort, but not bad.  I had sex after four days even though the doctor said 10.  It went great.  Over all, the healing process hasn't been bad.  I iced regrlarly, wore compression shorts, and enjoyed the vicodin.  I would recomend exaggerating the post op pain so your wife waits on you.

imagine some one has kicked you hard in the nuts. 2 years later its just as sore. i wish i'd never done it. i can't sit without adjusting everything down there which gets some strange looks from people when you are out and about. some of my co-workers thought i had crabs....  i've gained weight as i'm depressed about this and my sex life is non existant as the slightes bump or knock brings instant nausea due to pain. i'm 35 and i feel like my life will never be the same again. DON'T DO IT.

I'm 2.5 weeks post...no major issues except that my right testicle is swollen and a little hard. no major pain though. it's just a little odd. Anybody else have this happen to them?

I read through these postings before my procedure, so I thought I would post my experience.  I had the no scalpel, no needle version, so keep that in mind.  The procedure was okay...some moments of discomfort, but no real pain.  Only took about 20 min. to do.  I used an athletic supporter for about 12 hours and have worn "tightie whities" since.  I feel like I have enough support, but I am minimizing my up and about time.  I started applying frozen peas immediately upon getting to my vehicle (wife drove) and I immediately started taking Advil.  I did fill the pain medication, but I haven't taken any prescription pain killers so far.  I thought the Advil would help with any inflammation as well as dampen the pain.  I have taken Advil every 4 hours and have kept the frozen peas on almost constantly.  So far...no swelling or bruising.  A little "dull" pain like you feel ~ 30-45 minutes after getting hit in the groin with a tennis ball.

I have been sitting in my recliner for the last 24 hours (did sleep in bed) and am doing ok.  I waited ~ 24 hours before I took a shower to minimize the chance of infection.  I had the procedure done Friday morning and I'm planning to return to work on Tuesday.  I am going to take it easy for about 4 days.  My opinion so far...not too bad, but force yourself to take it easy and I would seriously look at the no scalpel/no needle version...has worked pretty well for me so far.

I think most of the variability depends on the physician performing the procedure, the procedure style (traditional, no scalpel, etc...), how you take care of yourself afterwards, and just your biology.  If I don't post anything else, you can presume everything went well.  I'll reply in a day or so if things go awry.  Good luck!

Did you understand what a vasectomy is prior to getting one? Because apparently you don't now. There is no pressure to be relieved from your testicle . . . that line was cut, remember?

Hey all,

Just read through both threads in there entirety. Not sure if I'm glad that I waited to find this thread but nonetheless, very informative.

A little background on myself: 45 yrs old from San Diego, CA; I have 1 three-yr old son and 1 ten year old daughter... I'm done!  :-)

So I had my procedure done this past Tuesday at 5pm. It is now Thursday Midnight and I definitely feel tender in the scrotum area. Whenever I get up from bed, it feels like my hips and lower extremities are going to detach from my lower abdomen; sharps electrical type pains.

I only iced my area once since geting home and maybe that's why my healing isn't going as smooth as the others in here. Why am I so stubborn?  >:-(

I've been pretty much off my feet in bed since the procedure, except to go pee (btw I've been peeing a lot...is that normal?) and to take a quick shower today at 5 pm.

I've taken Tylenol about 4 times for the pain. I was prescribed Viocodin, but heard some stories about that stuff and decided to go the Tylenol route.

Also, I've had on a jockstrap since leaving the "operating room" and I think that helped me avoid a lot of the swelling I've read about. But I am a little concerned about the pain I'm feeling. "2-3 days and you'll be ready to go back to work" I'm sure glad I'm unemployed at the moment because I can't imagine going back to work feeling like this.

Anyway, I'll book mark this page and be back in a couple of days with (hopefully) better news.

Just an update, it's been eight days since my procedure and I feel a lot better now. Testicles are still tender- gonna take a while to heal. Lower abdomen is fine now. I'm on my way to healing. Wearing a jock-strap is a must.

So, it's been roughly a month since surgery, today was the first time I ran at full-speed. I was wearing my jockstrap without the hardcup (I have been wearing my jockstrap like this for about 2 weeks now ) and was chasing softballs being hit to me in the outfield (my daughter is obviously in a softball league). While I was running around I didn't feel too much discomfort.

About 2 hours later, I was in the pool horsing around with my kids and I noticed after about 45 minutes in, a slight dull pain in my right testicle area. Not sure if it was caused by my running earlier or from the actual swimming. It's now about 12-13 hours later and I still feel the slight discomfort.

In addition, I started riding my bike along a 7 mile route along Silver Strand State Beach here in San Diego last week. Surprisingly I have not felt too much discomfort.

To end this update, I have been jockstrap-less a few times in the last two weeks, wearing only tighty whiteys but started feeling a littlebit of discomfort, so I went back to wearing the jockstrap sans the hardcup.

Other than that, I do feel an itching sensation around the area of the incision and around the area where I had originally shaved for the procedure... not sure what that is about.

That's it for now.
